Which phone holder do you use?

Hi guys,

Having a bit of difficulty deciding which phone holder to go for. The new E class interior is a lovely place to be and I don’t want to stick anything to the dash that’s permanent and will look unslightly.

I’ve always favoured clip in vent holders as they are removable and you can use them as and when, problem is with the new E last dash vents, I can’t see how a clip in holder would work as there is very little for the clips to slide on to.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks for the suggestion and links guy. Very helpful.

Looking into the Brodit proclips a little more it looks like the mount itself is attached to the vent/dash and then a clip is attached to the mount which is specific for your device.

Problem is the mount while removable isn’t the easiest thing to keep removing. Looks like it’s better left in situ once installed.

I like the fact it’s car specific though, very cool. The drivers vent mount might be the best option so far as the mount left in situ will be less noticeable instead of wacking it right in the middle of the dash.

If only I could get my phone screen onto the car screen I would be a happy guy.

I see Mercedes do a phone holder themselves that slips into one of the cup holders, anyone have any experience of this? The cubby hold lid will always have to be upright using this option and I don’t know how detachable it is.

Make I should stop being so fussy!

I use a mobile phone holder with built-in QI wireless charger (with permanent power connection), so the phone gets chraged whenver it is placed in the holder.

This obviously requires a mobile phone that supports wireless charging.

You are correct that the 'phone cradle is 'phone specific.

Why would you want to keep removing the mount? You only remove the 'phone from it's cradle when leaving the car. Brodit offer a 12v power socket lead or a kit to hardwire the cradle with dedicated 5v supply for the 'phone connector.

?

Doesn't the new E-Class have a specific place and USB connection for the phone and everything works from your steering wheel?

On short trips my phone goes in the door pocket and connects via bluetooth. Longer journeys I connect it to the USB in the centre console so it also stays charged and CarPlay is active. I don't need to see my phone while driving.

Use a vent clip in. However, the round vents innC and E are not great as the weight of the phone causes the phone to swing left and right as the car turns.

I’m wondering if there is some way I can immobilise the centre vent.

another vote for Brodit, used them in several cars, from BMW to Nissan, Volvo, Toyota, and now the Sprinter, they are quickly installed, even faster removed and leave not a single mark, while being absolutely stable. well worth spending a couple of quid more.

Plus easy to change the cradle if you get a different 'phone.

And another. I used Brodit Proclips in many cars including a classic 300SL. They are easy to fit and cause no damage to the car while holding the device securely.

I need to get my head round the tech I now have, I’ve come from a 15 year old car and it’s quite a step up. I’ve read up a little this evening and I didn’t know that Apple CarPlay can display google maps and waze on the main screen. That’s the only real reason why I want to mount my phone in the first place.

I also believe I’ve got a subscription to real time traffic updates for the first 3 years of ownership so the standard merc maps might be perfectly fine. Unless of course you guys say otherwise!

I guess the mount itself looks a bit ugly slapped in the middle of the dash.

Do you not have bluetooth?

Yes I have Bluetooth. Only need the phone in eye sight when using sat nav.

I have a proper Bury handsfree system and use the specific cradle for my handset ( currently iPhone7 ) which can be updated as required and both charges the handset as well as linking to the external antenna .

I do not like things which attach to windscreens, nor to air vents . Someone went to a lot of trouble to design the heating and ventilation system - why compromise it by obstructing air vents ?

I use CD slot phone mounts in my cars, they are cheap and work very well plus are very easy to remove when not in use.

I keep mine in my pocket, the hands free phone in the car works fine, I dont really understand the question
Not convenient when using your phone as sat nav as the OP has explained.

Your car satnav will do a perfectly good job of guiding you. I personally prefer the MB nav over Apple and Waze.
