Which R129 model?

I don't need tempting Ian I need to work out a strategy from a cheap topless blaster to a polish every sunday and close an ISA car !! - that's not one step its several involving many platitudes to the Mrs - tell me about the wheels, originals lost / stolen ? I had those on my CLS55 and I like them but surely not std on a R129 ??

Good luck with the Mrs...I'm a seasoned campaigner on that front!

When I bought it it had reps on it. Don't like reps.

Bought these from Alloywheelsdirect 'cause I liked them. Still do.

I know everybody goes potty about the "original" nutty bolty 3pc wheels....'fraid I'm a heretic, I simply don't like them. I think they're a PITA to clean and actually look awful.

One man's meat and all that!

Incidentally that dark blue one implies it has a body kitHard to be 100% sure from those gloomy pics but it doesn't look like it has to me.

Whatever it's deffo not an AMG body kit.

Advert has a high degree of nob in its writing - I think he is using poetic license, no body kit on display.

Note - I have found a cheap R129 with a AMG 3 piece rear spoiler - got excited over that

I must say I actually like the AMG body kit on 129's.

Yup UK list price, which is what they were quoting. Even with options you couldn't have got an SL60 up to £110k though - there were only three big ones (exclusive leather interior, ADS, and panoramic hardtop), which totalled up to less than £9k.

Mine was £116,588. I have a copy of the original invoice.

Other available options included xenons, orthopaedic seats, heated seats, amg back box, extended leather, cd multichanger....

That's a lovely colour combination. I would also assume it's designo mystic blue, but I think the car is too early to be a special edition - they were all 2000/2001 AFAIK (definitely post '99 facelift, which this car isn't). It doesn't appear to have heated seats and the wheels are just monoblocs, so seems quite strong money for an R plate.

It is a 1998 Special Edition. If you look at picture 5 you will see Special Edition wording on the wooden console flap. The sill plates are also engraved with Special Edition. It is the 1996-1998 model and was a 1998 special edition with specification as I have already stated. It was one of these which first sparked my interest in R129s.

Call me old fashioned, but a little politeness goes a long way.:(

My apologies, no offence meant. I was just writing rushed responses in between cooking. I thought I'd best clarify the special edition situation as otherwise those potentially interested might be put off.

I don't find AMG split rims difficult to clean and personally think they suit these cars perfectly.

Yes, re-reading my posts there was no need for the "wrong" and "wrong again". I would edit them but there's no point now they've been quoted.

Thanks.

I just obtained the data card for the SL60 that is up for auction. I guess the exhaust and quarter panel speakers could be resolved (unless metal has been cut to fit the speakers) but also bear in mind it seems to have no optional extras at all.

I was only talking about standard factory options though - there was obviously no limit to what you *could* have done to a car e.g. (extreme example) Sultan of Brunei!

Would love to see a breakdown of the price of yours - somebody obviously spent some serious money on that! I know the AMG accessory back box alone cost a small fortune.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten there was a Special Edition then. I do think the blue/grey is a really nice colour combination.

Main options excluding VAT are:

Designo Paint £3,617.02
Exclusive Designo Two Tone Leather £3,589.36
Seats - Heated Front £311.43
Adaptive Damping System £3,031.46
Electronic Stability Program £720.51
Sump Shield £166.10
Hardtop - Glass £2,212.77
Designo Wood Trim - Black Magic Eye £893.62
Rear Child Seat - Exclusive Two Tone Leather £148.94
Two Tone Leather Steering Wheel £357.45
Two Tone Leather Gearshift £68.09
Designo Floor Mats £178.72
10 Disc Boot Changer £519.15

I think the only options it doesn't have are xenons, orthopaedic seats and the AMG back box (it now has an Eisenmann one fitted).

Wow, approaching £10k worth of Designo treatment (with the VAT)!

I've seen six in total if you include advertised and actually seen three. One was a complete mess, another was a bit tired but ok and another had done over 150,000 miles and the best had only covered something like 28,000 miles or it might have been even less and was around £19,000 about two and a half years ago. I think it sold for very close to asking as well.

I used google street and satellite views to check out the original owner's address and it's an impressive manor and I use the word literally!
