Which Tyres Are Best

My preference would be Michelin Pilot Sports that I had several sets of on the Porsche.

The CLS came with Conti SportContact2 which seem to have gone after 15K on the rear, I wanted to replace these with a set of Michelins but the price differential between the MPS2 and CSC2 was £100 so I punted for the conti's again and saved myself £100. I searched high and low for a good price on the Michelins and even Costco who normally are good came in around £270 each!!!

The CLK came with Pirelli P Zeros which I suspect my wife is going to rip apart very quickly as she is very hard on tyres (fast in, slow out approach to corners).

I have used Event Mobile Tyres for many years now with great service and very competitive prices considering they come to you. www.event-tyres.co.uk

Well i ended up sticking with the Continentals. Got a decent price and had all four fitted.

Interestingly on the wear aspect even though the rears were on the limit the front were not too far behind so rotating them would only have given a little bit of extra mileage not a great deal.

Michelins will probably give you better wear.

I switched to Michelins at the rear a few months ago. I marginally prefered the previous Contis - I thought I got better feel for what the backend was doing and slightly lower noise.

My Michelin Pilot Premacy have given 49,000 miles on my 210 Auto Estate. 2 need changing now and 2 have 5,000 miles left !
Drive sensibly and they pay for themselves.

Just my 2p's worth. The best tyres I have run an E Class on have been Dunlop SP9000. These were OEM on my 06 E280 CDI and given experience on both Michelin and Conti of this same size, these tyres had the best compromise of grip, wear, ride, noise and longevity.
Goodyear F1's were good on 18" rims but had high rolling resistance.

I have Dunlop on my W202 and they seem fine. The car was fitted with Pirelli but when I needed new tyres, there were no Pirelli in stock so I made do with Dunlop.

What's the general view on Pirelli?? :dk:

Hi might as well throw a couple of pence worth in too, try Barum made by Conti, and about half price(I can`t imagine you`ll get half mileage either) or I`ll agree `bout Kumho too, the list goes, on also worth pricing Kleber Michelin`s 2nd line. hope you get value for your hard earned.
Cheers .....Paul

Always a safe bet if you have first hand experience on a particular brand, and are happy with them, then stick with them,...why go into the unknown, problem is, certain brands suit certain cars so cannot just use the brand as the criteria..

I have had had 5 sets of Michelin Pilot Primacy in the last 7 years and I have never had any problems with them.

I always buy in a set of 4 at Costco when they have over 20% discount on, making them cheaper than budget brands :)
