Whoops I did it again. 124 Purchased.

It looks like a nice car John :thumb:

just spotted this.

love the colour.

we need more pics, and of the interior too.

Looks good John. i dont think i could easily part with my two 124 multivalves.

are you going to run this on old dirty chip fat then? The filler cap is too clean at the moment :D

I must admit , with another injector leaking on the C270 ( booked into Merparts next Monday to be fixed and the fifth one to be checked and possibly removed/resealled as a precaution ) I am seriously thinking of going back to either a W124 , W201 or maybe looking for a R129 !

What I would lose in fuel economy I will save on garage bills - plus I still have an LPG kit I could put in the right car .

At least with these cars I can fix them myself and I know my way round the technology .

Wash your mouth out Sir :D. Only Asda's finest with a hint of Forte for this beastie.

Roger that also. Will bell you before hand if you are still on the same mobile number. The one I have for you ends with a four. Failing that PM.

CHEERS

John, still the same mobile number ending in 4. I don't like change! :D

So here we go with whats wrong with it. Remembering it is a 94 with just short of 200K on it.

Mr Walker noticed a very odd pipe connecting the pre fuel filter to some gubbins further back on the block. I think a heater thingy was what he mentioned. Ill put a picture up of the Heath Robinson pipe tomorrow. Anyway correct pipe from Merc ordered (all of a tenner) and fitted - it is starting a lot better now. However on changing this odd pipe and the pre fuel filter it fired up immediately. Odd we thought, it should of at least, have coughed. Guess what no fuel is running through the pipe or the pre fuel filter. Further investigation is required to find out why fuel is not running through this pipe. Wethinks it been rerouted to skip the heater which is probably knackered anyway.

We are quite sure it will be more comfortable once the rear sub frame is attached at four points and not three!!! New spheres and sub frame bushes will be sorted as this is being fettled. It has had two new springs but only one on each axle (why do people not fit them as a pair) So that will need attending to. Of course, steering damper, ARB Bushes and suspension tops and engine mountings will be sorted too. (you can tell its a keeper, cant you) Any new piping on the underneath will be sorted too.

Then its paint time. Its look good from a distance but boy is it rough close up.

So why did I buy it with that lot wrong. You are just hard pushed to find one at my end of the market is all.

So why did I buy it with that lot wrong.

Provided the problems are reflected in the price for a car with lots of issues it's satisfying to sort them yourself, and you know they've been done correctly. Often people seem tempted to over pay for a car that is marketed well and appears to have had lots of 'restoration' work done, but to what standard? The 'buy a resored car, don't do it yourself' only makes sense IMO if you're talking abot W113s and similar, and only then if you have a thorough professional assessment (not AA/RAC!!)

Good looker by the way. Enjoy

Malcolm

Could have sworn blind I put some pictures up of the fettlement as we went along. 'Appen it should be in a different section but it will do here for now.

Forum member Aandyy is in picture 3 trying not to suck air in through his teeth.

Jobs done this far. This is from memory so I may have missed a couple.

Engine mounts and steering damper changed.
Battery clamp and nut fitted. (Why do folk always leave these off after a battery change)
Engine oil and filter change.
Air filter changed (Old one manky as hell)
Fuel now routed through the pre fuel filter, it was not going that way before. There is a little heater element to heat the fuel prior to it going into the pre fuel filter (Cant remember the correct technical term but Ian is the man) This was just missing and a heath robinson pipe had been made up by someone to skip this area. Picture of that later.
5 glowplugs changed. No 1 stuck fast - "We" (very royal) "froze" it, put WD40, Forte stuff, QX Maintenance stuff all round the plug but it was not for coming. So it has been left. That fight will be won another day. Starts on the button now for sure and no glowplug light is coming on after start up.
Leather interior fitted (just about) Just the drivers seat to go which when I bought it turned out to be both electric and ortho. Previous owner of the leather had cut the wiring (barsteward) to ease getting the chair out. Splicing time coming up and also have to connect the vac lines up the the chair.
New spheres are in along with new pipes.
New disk and pads all round are waiting to go on. Pagid all round if you are interested. Because they stop me just fine in my diesel saloon.
Two gauges of copper pipes are in the workshop in case Ian has to make up any pipes.
New Merc subframe bushes are waiting to go into the subframe.
Merc ARB bushes waiting to go on.

Ian and his team are really moving on with this and it is mega thanks to them. As soon as its off his ramps we can get some other stuff done.

Dream sheet is getting more ticks than blanks - never thought Id find a blue leather interior as quickly as I did.

Thanks for reading.

CHEERS
