Hi all
I need a front set of summer tyres for my wifes 2006 C220CDi
Thought it would be easy, but....
Looking on mytyres there are
SportContact 3 225/45 ZR17 91Y with raised rim rib asymmetric
SportContact 3 225/45 R17 91W
SportContact 3 225/45 R17 91W with raised rim rib, M0 asymmetric
SportContact 3 225/45 R17 91V with raised rim rib
HELP!!!

The speed rating at the mo is H, 130mph quite enough anyway

Anybody help with which one l should fit and what is the raised rib and assymetric?
Looking at the illustrations they look the same

All advice gratefully received

Raised rib I would imagine is the raised profile of rubber circling the sidewall of the tyre to offer some protection against kerbing your wheels.

Asymmetric tyre tread pattern is when the pattern varies from one side of the tread to the other. These tyres must be fitted with the outside sidewall on the outer face of the wheel. Directional versions will also be specific to the left and right sides of the vehicle. This information is often indicated on the sidewall.

All the listed tyres exceed the requirements of your car so IMHO you get the cheapest. Can't really see any downside there!

Thanks

:doh:Thanks for the replies

Don't understand why there should be £20 difference per tyre......
The photos all appear the same, with raised ribs and assymetric trad, but the ones that cite it in the info are more expensive....very confusion

Best wishes to all

If you want Continental SportContact 3 tyres you will need 225/45 ZR17 91Y MO. MO standing for Mercedes Only. I dont actually know the actual difference but MO is used for mercs in Continental

What about the Continental SportContact 5 !

What is very confusion (whatever that is) about that. the ones with the rim protector cost a bit more.

Simples.

I bought Conti sport contact 3 for my c43, these tyres was NOT MO stamped = Mercedes originals.
They were aftermarket tyres, any difference in stability vs MO tyres?

When I had my new tires and adjustable rear camber arms fitted and re-aligned my car, rear-end felt like having straight line driving instability at higher speed from 95 miles/hr and more.
Now when my car was in hybernate for 6 months during winter, took it out last month, I guess all parts fell in place when my car was parked during winter and my car somehow now feels having more straightline driving stability on the road at speeds from 95 miles??
Weird huh??

I filled my tires with 2.9 kilos (Kilopascal) air pressure on all 4 corners.
Don't know how much that is in Psi??
Tires are 225/40/18 fronts
Rear tires are 255/35/18

Maybe tires are sensitive to higher tire pressure?

2,9 kps on all four corners  This explains why your car feels jittery :D That is FAR too much pressure. Just stick to the pressures indicated on the inside of the filler flap :thumb:

filler cap show pressure for 17 inch rims?
I have 18 zoll Brabus felgen, tire pressure must be a bit higher I asume?

When I had my previous GY F1 Eagles, crap tires for swedish roads noisy as hell!
I used to have 3.2 kps on all 4 corners, got them bald unevenly! My stupidity using my tires as guinea pigs testing the kps!
However I never did a re-align when I swapped rims from 17 to 18, therefore wrong kps and wrong align killed my tires after 25000 km

Now with 2.9 kps on my new set contis feels kinda ok when I drive.
Maybe within 2.5 - 2.8 range is okey?
They are XL tires meaning reinforced sidewalls, then they wont need that much of air pressure, am I correct?

Update

Well l had two tyres fitted via Mytyres, highly recommended.
Fitted at a local fitter and the best price anywhere, £118 each all in.
In repsonse to Dieselman - No, it isn't that simple which was why l started this thread in the first place.
The cheapest ones were with raised ribs and assymetric tread not the ones that didn't say they had these attributes - they were dearer!
That was my confusion.

The best advice was the MO tyres being made specifically for Mercedes

I did look at Conti 5's but they were rated lower in all areas except in snow, and as these are summer tyres only that wasn't relevant to me. 12.9 for 5's and 13.16 for 3's by Tyretest.com. Also l didn't want different tyres on axles as l was changing fronts only.

Once again, thanks for all replies
