Why hasn't it sold?

I keep seeing this SLC for sale.

Auto Trader logo

£10k and decent miles, along with documented service history and a well-known, well-funded petrolhead former owner.

Fantastic '80s metallic gold with sumptuous brown velour interior including cruise and aircon.

It's been for sale for months (over a year in total?) and clearly isn't selling.

It's a long way away from me, but I am tempted.

Has anyone on here had a good look at it and any ideas why it just hasn't sold?

Not a desirable colour combo, the SLCs haven't ever been that popular and can have horrific rust issues.

Looks decent in pics, however pics aren't the same as viewing it in person, could be a total dog.

What KillerHERTZ said. If you like the colour and shape then check it out *very* carefully (see any R107 thread for potential major issues). I think most people would rather have an SEC.

Thanks for these. I've had a R107, so am familiar with the issues these can have. Nevertheless, SLCs are going for a lot of money these days and the SEC never won any rallies.

I can't clearly see the details on the papers shown but they look to be old ie original sales receipt etc.. Perhaps you've seen a different advert to me but I can't see any reference to a well-funded owner?

I had one of these many, many years ago (for about 10 years) and they're lovely cars. However, as others have said, they can rust and, depending where it is, it can be quite expensive to sort properly. The brown velour wouldn't be my first choice but it does have period appeal. Accepting that they can rust, the MOT history might put a few people off or might point to areas worth exploring further. Having said that, it might be perfectly fine now and you don't see many about nowadays.
eta - just seen your post re R107, so you'll already be familiar

It was most likely used in a video for a couple of weeks filming. Hardly a great history :)

Go and take a look at it. Generally as I've said above, cars that don't sell are generally dogs.

I wasn't trying to start an argument. I am looking for some educated advice rather than wild guesses.

I know there are some on here who do their homework on what is available in the marketplace.

My questions were has anyone had a good look at this car and, therefore, any ideas why it hasn't sold?

JayKay commented in an interview when he owned it that it was his favourite car for taking out just for a drive, so the "most likely used in a video for a couple of weeks filming. Hardly a great history" remark is neither informed nor helpful.

Any constructive advice from anyone who has seen this particular vehicle much appreciated.

I provided a constructive reply at the start of the thread. As well as my 2nd one. We have given you reasons why it's not selling. If you don't agree with them, fair enough, but I get the impression you won't accept any answer. Go and see it!

Why did he sell it? Just because someone famous owned a car doesnt make it any better than any other one :)

Sadly, it rapidly went downhill after this. But thank you for your opinion.

Editing your post after someone else replies to it is clearly an Administrator privilege.

You think that "When did JayKay own this? 1996?" is constructive??!

Just because someone sells a car doesn't make it a problem car. Nor does it once being owned by "someone famous" make it a good one. My point (in case you really can't read) is nothing to do with "fame", but, as clearly stated, that a very well-funded person who is famously fastidious with cars that he owns had once owned and cherished it. That doesn't mean that it's perfect now, nor does it mean that it's a dog. As you have cleverly pointed out, either is possible.

I asked whether anyone on here had any knowledge of this particular vehicle. Clearly you don't, so don't worry about it.

Thank you again for your invaluable input.

Its not, anyone can edit for 30mins after posting.

Im not sure whats with the chip on your shoulder tonight, we have all given you valid input for which you have chosen to ignore. I get the impression no reply will satisfy, until what you are wanting to hear "Yes its a great car and a real bargin, you must go and buy it" is posted.

Claiming I really cant read or telling me I clearly dont have any knowledge? - Insulting me because you arent getting the replies you want. Grown up mate. its a car forum.

Go and view it, it will be a dog.

Again, read what I have said before replying.

Thank you again for your constructive help again grown up mate.

Although I am open to it being a "dog", worse than average, average, better than average or (most unlikely) wonderful, you have, in your infinite wisdom, pontificated that it will be a dog.

I said that you have no knowledge of this car. Clearly, I was wrong, although you haven't actually stated that you do.

Once again, have you seen this car or haven't you? If you have, then I apologise unreservedly, although you perhaps should have made this clear earlier.
