Why hasn't it sold?

Buy it even if it is a dog and brag about who once owned it.

Someone will be well impressed.
If I were to be interested in bragging rights, I might! As it is, I have no idea who JayKay is, except that he has deep pockets and loves his cars.

Still, a SLC does have an attraction for me as it's the first Mercedes I ever was driven in and, one day, would love to own, no matter who owned it previously.

I enjoyed my SL and regret selling it ( as well as my 190E, CLKs and first CLS!)

One day, I'll find a good 'un. Maybe this is it. Quite possibly not.

Someone out there must have been to see it in the last 18 months surely?!

I owned Rick Parfitt's Range Rover Vogue Black Label Project Khan bearing his Status Quo number plate V8OUO, suitably impressed?

Mind you it ended up needing a new gearbox [emoji16]

A lovely looking car IMO....just a shame bout the colour combo, which I personally feel will be a contributing factor the the lower price.

MOT (currently expired ) history is def worth a read:

I have not been to see it. However I did go to Maldon once (around 2014), perhaps even drove past the garage whilst I was there. Although I wasn't looking for that car (as I wasn't looking for any car in a garage to be fair, more so one which wasn't there 5 years ago) I may have been listening to JKs music, so I as far as I can tell, the car is a complete dog, needs welding carrying out to all areas including the velour upholstery :D:D

Do let us know how you get on if you view it :)

I’ve always had a soft spot for the original SLC and could never quite understand why they were so much “cheaper” than the SL.

I like the one in the OP, the colour very much *of it’s age*, it does look a good example on the face of it.

Well given I live not that far away I will drive past in the next week and have a look at it.

IMHO it looks quite nice in that colour combo.

yes - it’s had some corrosion issues - which must have been sorted for subsequent mot passes.

As long as you realise that a 38yr old car will have bits of rust now and again, and give it a thorough inspection re the dreaded bulkhead rust - it may be rather nice for high days & holidays. An inspection by a model specialist may be prudent if you are interested, and results could give you (a) a bargaining tool (b) real insight to jobs which may want doing soon.

If you do want an SLC then you will have to probably be prepared to travel to maybe eventually find ‘the best’ - no bad thing, make it a day out, you’ll see good/bad, and generally learn more about your intended ‘new love’ - good luck, and keep us posted :)

If really interested in better go and see it. On the photos it looks as it should and the only blemish I have found (on the photos) is the right fog light corrosion and that horrible red stereo. SLC380 was only in production for 18 months so it can be a good investment as probably only a 1000 were made.

Thank you. I would be very interested to hear what you think.

I read through the MOT history before I started the thread and it doesn't contain anything I wouldn't have expected from a 38-year old 107. I can see both sides of the colour combination argument. Whilst I wouldn't choose to spec it on a new car, it is authentic to the era and, personally, I prefer it to the Signal Red with black interior that I had on my 1987 300SL.

Well I tried to see this car today ,I managed to make a hole in the schedule.and between leaving Brentwood and getting back home got off the A12 on the A414 and arrived at the Maldon Car sales, the bad news was the car was not there, talking to the only guy at the car sales,he is eastern block and it seems they have had the car garaged along with another classic merc, but need the space now,the problem is the car is in Greys where they live,I got the distinct impression that they would bring the car to Maldon but not for a tyre kicker like me,he did say there was a small amount of rust under one door, who knows, sorry not to able to have seen it,if you want it I would give them a call and maybe see it at Greys, where it lives.

Thank you so much for trying to see it and sorry it was a wasted journey.

Looks like I have a 7-hour round trip coming up...

Eastern block seller living in Grays, think very carefully before making a 7 hour trip. I live in Essex and that info alone would put me off...

Yes I was aware that it was appointment only,I was under a time cosh and could not tell them when I could find time to get there, but remembered this car sales from years ago there was a building at one corner of the site I hoped they had it in there. even if it was impossible to get out at short notice I might be able to get to look at it,that building is now a MOT garage and most of the frontage of this site has a hand car wash,I would ask them to see it at Greys,it is marginally easier to get to,just continue on M25 and come off on A13,the photos in the advert were either taken earlier this year or last year, because the cars behind the merc have all changed ,ok it is a car sales but every single car has changed and this is not a lot where you have road frontage so change the cars to generate interest ,the guy said they used to keep the car in the corner with a cover over it but moved it to their home

You could check out the company online for a bit of reassurance.

Was it a case of:

"It's on and off and on again
Going on and then
Taking all I got again
Bleeding me leaving me dry
You're hanging on for what you can
Dragging out the pain
Taking all I give again
Fakin' it making me cry"
