Can someone help.....I would like to connect my Dell Latitude C510 to Internet via a WiFi connection....I think I need a USB Wifi "dongle" or "adapter" I don't want to spend a fortune!

Would this one on Amazon be ok?

I want to be able to make use of Wifi networks in coffee shops etc as well as at home....

your laptop comes with WiFi built in!

If it does, I cannot find it...no network card either...

According to Amazon it does!

I'd be surprised if a lappy ddn't come with WiFi...

If you are running vista... just click the windows logo; then click 'Connect To'
If you have Wi-Fi then this will scan for any devices in range.

I am pretty certain you will have Wi-Fi on that model.

Don't forget that some lappys come with a little switch on the side to disable the wi-fi.
Caught me out a couple of times!

Is this your own laptop or one provided by your employer?

If provided by your employer then the on/off toggle may be disabled.

Still none the wiser....running XP and do not know how to find out if I have a Wifi connection.......dont believe that I do...can we go back to the op please?

Probably would be OK as this is a generic item, and not much to lose.

The rest of the thread is trying to save you spending that money as you may already have the feature, and you said you don't want to spend a fortune.

What do you see when you do:

Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

I have: Intel Pro Wireless adapter

I understand and appreciate the help, but I cannot seem to locate any wifi connection on my laptop...

Not sure if this is any help, but I copied it from the Dell forums.

11 Sep 2008 06:33AM
Hello,

can anybody tell me, which Wireless Card fits into a Dell C510 Latitude. There is an open Mini PCI Slot, but i can't tell anything about any antennas

What kind of WLAN Cards are suitable, and can i also use one with WPA encryption or even WPA2??

Thank you.

Thomas

here is an 5g-wireless card for your dell c510-

encryption is done in the routers setup program....depending on which type of wireless router you are using

Thanks

All I have listed is a "3com Intergrated Fast Ethernet Controller"

There is no wireless adapter listed in device manager

A general question to all: can wi-fi be disabled and hidden from a BIOS setting?

What is your processor? That will let us know...
