Wildly different figures/claims when remapping an E350 CDI

I'm getting more and more tempted to just go up to BFT (after lockdown), as they offer a service to get my car ECU put back to before the dieselgate software update at the same time, improving the MPG etc. MSL can probably do that too (as instructed my BFT), but they'll be more expensive I'm sure.

Long journey but they seem really nice and friendly - Acid was nice on the phone but was ignored a few times on their instagram so thought screw it, just go to who actually does the maps...

They also do a £50 'social media reduction' for anyone who agrees to have their pic taken on the dyno for their social media (I think they cover the plate, if that bothers you).

Also in all honesty, it kind of bugs me that MSL are still tuning cars and running and posting it on social media... not exactly an 'essential' practice to be getting your C63 (or whatever) tuned to 600+ bhp at the moment...

I just looked on MSL site Bradford and it looks like a 5 year old has written their website, spelling mistakes, the pages dont match the links and the prices are is US dollar, wont be going there. I would much rather go to a mapper who knows Mercedes tuning.

MSL North? They don't have a separate website - do you mean you went to their facebook page?

It was actually a redesign by Acid himself. Is it this one? The price is in UKP for me.

If you're going to go to MSL, MSL Birmingham is the place to go. That's where they do the tuning with the rolling road. The other place is more their generic workshop, I believe.

If you're in Doncaster, it's probably 'only' an hour's drive north up the A1 to BFT...

Personally I wouldn't go anywhere else other than MSL Birmingham. I have used them a number of times for various tuning needs including my 2012 C350 CDI.
Due to his tenacity and dogged determination for perfection it took Acid the best part of a whole day to re-map, dyno and tweak my car, finally ending up with 330bhp & 580 ft/lb (I have before and after graphs recording all the data etc). Not bad figures at all & to say I'm pleased with it is a massive understatement!
That was over four years and 50k miles ago. It has not missed a beat since and has performed admirably as my daily car, returning on average 43mpg including some 'spirited' driving.

How did you get all the way up to 330bhp and 786NM on a OM642...?!! Did you remove DPF and disable EGR? Any other mods?

What did you start off with?

That can't just be a remap, right, even for the 265bhp version of the engine!

That's also more than GAD have done, even.

Hi Ted? My car has no other mods whatsoever - I have fitted some BMC filters (honestly can't remember if was before or after re-mapping, but only fitted those for re-userbility), other than that a bog standard 2012 C350CDI 265BHP Sport saloon.
Below is a graph page of some of the different maps Acid had tried during the day, the best figures being 280.61bhp & 494.31 ft/lbs. Multiply these by 1.18 (or 18% drive train lose) and you arrive at 331.12 bhp & 583.29 ft/lbs. I'll aplogise upfront if my man maths is crap but even taking that in to account they are impressive figures, and the car bears this out. If you're still unsure talk to MSL again and ask to see the maps yourself, I don't mind. My car reg is T77 MGK and it was re-mapped on 30th or 31st December 2016 from memory.

Thanks for that (sorry in the delay in replying) - wasn't doubting you for a second, just surprised as MSL themselves quote much more conservative numbers, and when I asked them how <another company> got more than them, they said they didn't know and that it would be pushing the car/gearbox too far.... and those numbers were less than yours!

I thought a twin turbo 335D / 535D (or some mods to a MB V6) was required to get up that high.

Bet you have a real beast of a car, congrats!

The car certainly is fun but in a very different way to a petrol engined one, it's all about torque and not revs as you know. A bit of 'sleeper' too that has surprised more than a couple fast cars in the past.

Is this recommended in an ML350 (MOT issues aside). Anyone get any real-world experience? More smoke?

If you are based in Essex save a drive to Birmingham and speak to the guys at GAD Burnham on Crouch. Full 4WD rolling road and able to show you before and after dyno graphs.

That is very true, I have just done a check on google map, is 2h35mins to MSL Birmingham or 1h5mins to GAD.

A personal reason is, I got a close friend in Birmingham and they need the car from 9 am to finish the same day.

Anyone here got their DPF removed with the map ?

I had my C350 remapped by MSL last week including DPF soloution.

Car made 335bhp and has greatly improved the driveability of it. The torque is addictive and makes motorway driving even more effortless. I swear the gearbox is happier and I've found it is less likley to pointlessly shiftdown when applying more throttle. The car only smokes when on full throttle / heavy load. Town driving produces no smoke.

I also had some work done by Immy at TorqueFlow exhausts who ocupy the same space - I had my rear silencers removed and new tips fitted. It actually sounds like a V6 now!

I have to say, anyone reading this who is considering a MSL remap, I've never been so comfortable with other people working on my car, as soon as you arrive you and the car are treated brilliantly and kept informed at all times what is going on, excellent customer service from all staff. I was there for 8 hours all in and it flew by. They had a AMG GT on the dyno, followed by a 800bhp Supercharged C63.... and I was able to get up close and see what was going on.
