Wind Screen wiper problem

This seems to be a common problem for fellow C class owners and this is the second time I have had mine repaired. The wiper started going a bit haywire about two weeks ago and finally gave up the ghost on Saturday.

A recovery expert said that the wiper motor has gone and needed replacing. Today I had the said motor replaced, but the unit seems to be making a whining noise. It wasnt doing this before even when the mecanism wasnt working properley.

The noise is quite loud. Should I take it back and what could be the causes?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Is it a new motor?

Did you replace it yourself?

If so did you check that the linkage was free and lubricated prior to fitting the new one?

Normally what happens is the nylon drive gear inside the motor gearbox wears due to the resistance of the mechanism ~ through poor lubrication or seizure.

No its not a new car 1999. It was replaced by a Mercedes garage. The garage said it they had greased the mechanism and that helped, but its still very noisy.

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it.

No, I meant is it a new motor as in wiper motor!!
Or a second hand one?

Sorry I see what you mean, its been a long day. Its a brand new motor.

As Franey has suggested, lubricate the mechanism or check to see if the garage has done so, if you still think something is abnormal bring it back to the garage, it could be that something wasn’t tightened up properly, the whole mechanism and motor would have been removed from the car in order to refit the new motor.

Impossible to say more without hearing the whole mechanism running but if you feel that it is significantley worse now, with the new motor compared with when it was working properly then there may be something wrong.
