Windscreen cracked - insurance co replacing

i would go back if you are unhappy with anything - if its not sitting right and trim not fixed correctly, you'll end up with leaks or water traps.

Went back to guy on saturday morning to get him to check over the things i wasnt happy with. He said it was basically one of his employee's downfalls was that he didnt like using brute force on cars like mercs etc and he hadnt used enough force to push the black trims back into place on either side of the screen. Took him a few seconds to fix just pulled off the trims and refitted them giving them a good thump to clip them into place properly.

Sorted and seems to be fine at the mo. Need to give the car a good valet and get everything cleaned and sealed up before it gets to hardcore winter. A bit of frost this morning so thats enough of a hint to go and get my winter rubber fitted back onto the wheels.

Cheers for the help guys.

Just got chip/crack in mine, only done 2700 miles from new. Gutted.
Would like a new one instead of a repair can I stipulate that ?

Just ask for it to be replaced i suppose , i would never get it repaired. Waste of time and money.

If anyone is about to get a screen replaced & do not already have rain sensing wipers(assuming you wish to have some), I would recommend that you tell the glass company when booking the job, that you have rain sensors. They will order the screen with the lens optics in place for the rain sensor. Then all you have to do is purchase a sensor & loom to give you auto wipers :)

Pilkington Automotive is OEM certified glass. So too is Guardian, Sekurit Saint Gobain etc. If you look closely at some of these new cars rolling off the production lines, you'll see that there is not one brand of glass for any extended period of time. A lot of glass is coming in from China (even the OEM brands have some of theirs made over there).

But there are cheaper brands out there - some are ok, some are pretty good while others are truly awful in terms of quality and fitment.

hi, where would I look to find the brand name? I just had one fitted and am curious now as to what make it is. I did look it over but didn't notice any name on it.

Hi Rob - the branding and dot numbers are usually printed on one of the bottom corners. There should be something somewhere, otherwise *technically* it's illegal.

Thanks ill check it out tomorrow.

It says Pilkingtons on it so I assume the quality should be fine. Certainly the colour and sun-strip look just as it did before.
