Wing mirror screeches when folding in

Hey people

As it says my passenger side wingmirror on my C class 2010 screeches every now and then when The car unlocks and they unfold. A friend of mine sent me some "Finish line Teflon Grease" and said that it should do the trick, but I have no idea how to do this and can't find any guides anywhere.

If possible could someone link me a a how to guide? And has anyone had experience with this? How did it turn out in the end?

Typical Mercedes said lubrication won't work and I need a whole new wing mirror at the price of £700. But I think I'll put that idea to one side for a while lol

Thanks all, any help appreciated

Does it screech for about 3 to 4 seconds after the mirror has fully folded in/out, and not do it every time, but probably once every 3 to 5 openings/closings?

Mine does exactly the same thing, passenger side too.

I put it down to missing teeth on the cog, as it doesn't always do it so would depend on when it reaches outmost position and the drive gear reaches the missing teeth at the same time, hence the occasionality of it.

As the teeth are missing, you hear the motor grind against the gear for a few seconds after it's reached fully open position which indicates that the motor is powered and applying torque for longer than it needs to, which explains why constantly pushing hard against those particular teeth when in the outmost position has worn them out and now it grinds.

I took my mirror off and stripped it down to investigate/repair (if metal gears, would have welded a blob onto the missing tooth part, the filed new teeth into it, if plastic (unlikely, it's all very heavy duty), then an epoxy resin, then as above.

As it turned out, once you get right down to the support/hinge mechanism, it's all big, heavy metal, most of the mirrors quite considerable weight is in the bottom mechanism and arm. It's held together at the hinge by a big push on starlock clip which I had no way of getting off without breaking it, and so couldn't go any further with it.

They were right, it's not lubricant. It is repairable, if you're handy but you'll need to find a replacement starlock clip to fit first.

I suppose it depends on if it is just a squeak while it's in motion or a screech when it hits it's endstop, then it's the overrun or grinding gear issue.

Mine did this I stripped it down and sprayed with grease, however after about 6 months it has started again.

Mine does the exact same on my drivers side, every now and then whilst in motion. Gets really annoying.

I haven't stood there and seen how often it does it and I guess I can't always say I'm paying attention when I'm walking off from my car each time, might give it a test tomorrow

£700 for a replacement that's ridiculous!

Yeah exactly the same, only when it folds out though not in, I'm going to investigate into it, and will update when I can, hopefully it's nothing broken, can't deal with anymore broken stuff lol

It's after its fully folded out

Mine does this. It's a 62 plate B Class Sport. Tbh it's done it from new.

every time it's been in for a service I've mentioned it to them and it's never been sorted.

Bad service from the dealership really but being British I'm not one to complain!!!

Mine screeches - no amount of WD40 or Silicone lube can eliminate this :(
