Worth getting brand new C63 AMG coupe detailed?

Oh dieselman (& ***) have to post his i am always right replies on everything, who cares. I had starguard done when i bought my C55. As far as i was concerned it was fine. Only after nearly 4 years did i notice it was not being as effective. Then had a full and expensive paint protection detail. Happy enough to have it applied, f.o.c., to the C63.

Interesting post.

Isnt stopping the UV light a bad thing though as the paint underneath it wont match the paint around it? What does "pita to remove" mean?

No mate...uv is the main culprit for paint fade....with no protection on the paint will be a distant memory of how it was when bought in a matter of time....

All clearcoats have UV inhibitors in them but not enough to prevent this sought of damage occurring....why dont they put more in then? i hear you ask....

Simple reason is that UV inhibitors keep paint soft if too much is added...take Dupont...largest paint manufacturer worldwide and when they say something about paint and its properties i for one will listen....they did however get the UK market completely wrong in the late 90s when they introduced a new clearcoat with unrivalled UV inhibitors....but they didnt count on the good old blighty temperaturers...it was made for the states weather and the clear never dried....stayed soft to a degree of being unstable simply because of the weatehr over here...they did revisit this though and subsequent measures were taken....

UV is bad...paintwork protection is good but only when applied in the correct manner and to the procedure stated by the manufacturer....
