Worth thinking about C63

With the cold weather at the moment we have probably all noticed it takes a little longer for oil temp to get above 80c but never give a thought of the gearbox temp. Had a play with command this morn and monitored the gear temp which took at least 4 miles more to get to 50 c than the oil to 80c, as this is in blue till temp reaches 50 I presume that a gentle right foot should be needed till the optimum operating temp is reached. Worth a thought?

I take it easy for a good 5 miles whilst everything warms up. I have a question though how do I get my command to come up with those gages on the screen?

Mine take more than 4 miles for the engine oil to reach 80. More like 7 miles I'd say. My nearest town is around 8 miles away. Digital temp gauge never hits 80 until I hit the second roundabout entering the town. And it doesn't make a diffence what the weather. Mine pre facelift so haven't got gearbox temp. Well I don't think so anyway.

The gauges are linked to the AMG media and i have never really used them since I was running it in. I always thought it a bit of a toy

This was being careful and not using launch control as it had only done about 500 miles when I took the pic. One advantage is you can access different settings such as sport+ on box and sport chassis at the touch of one button rather than doing it individually. The launch control is instant also. There is a qtr mile and half mile functions as well as g meter

All looks really good. Might be being thick but can I get these options on my c63 command or do I need additional software?

I think most of it comes with the AMG race pack as you access through the amg button. If it could be removed (which I doubt) I would be happy to sell it. About £2800 option new if I remember.

My daily commute is 9 miles each way and depending on the conditions it will be at 47 by the end of the journey. That's when ambient is cold and heavy traffic meaning a steady speed.

The performance media is quite rare as an option - standard on the BS but cool to see it on a 'standard' car.

It was not standard on the bs, was a option.

I commute to a station 3 miles and just as I get there the oil reaches 80 degrees.

I always warm her up nicely to about 90 before giving it the beans, nice blast the other day Mark :thumb:

Transmission temp is yet another gauge I always felt would be helpful (after engine oil pressure gauge).

Said that, I think that the potential negative effects of running the car with less-than-optimal transmission temp are probably insignificant in comparison to the wear caused by racing a cold engine.

So in short there is probably no real issue in driving the car normally as soon as the engine reached its operating temp, regardless of the transmission temp (which would be half way up anyway by then).
