Definately arguable. My car is a 280 estate, Matt's is a 320 coupe so there is a little difference. But thanks for all the info, we will certainly be adding each other to insurance as named after this. Just read Mark SL500's thread, makes mine look like a little dink :D.

Read your certificate carefully. If it says it covers you for the minimum coverage they are talking about RTA cover only and not 3rd party. That is liabilty to damage to persons not property. Most offer 3rd party but some are RTA only.

I am with NU and found that article interesting as I still have coverage for other cars. And its fully comprehensive if its a loan car at a garage etc...

Nat - sorry about the bumps - you are supposed to report them to your company but if you're not putting in a claim - makes sure you make that clear. You may get a small loading. - good luck:rock:

Today's faux pas, the guy said he will probably just get the alloy done, have the tracking checked and let me know the cost. Therefore, given I am only 3rd party I will pay for the damage to the coupe.

If he claims a brand new alloy (which I personally would if I was him) opposed to a refurb then you are looking at a good few £££s along with the tracking/alignment check as BMW Dealers charge similar rates to MB assuming he goes down the Dealer route!

Now here's the question - take the first bump, do I tell my insurance or Matt's or do I talk with the coach company and see if they just want to settle it without going through insurance?

Legally you are bound to inform your insurance company of all incidents\accidents but if someone had a blameworthy accident and paid for the repairs out of their own pocket then perhaps they might not tell anyone, but only if no party made any type of claim. Regarding the bus incident I would try contacting the bus company as they might have their own insurance, or the cost of repair might be less than the excess.

Good luck getting this sorted and hopefully you have now used up all the bad luck.

regards
John

I do feel for you. I've had two weeks of it recently.

First of all a focus pulled out of a drive way behind a parked card and T-Boned my Porsche completly destroying the near side door.

Next my Wife parks the Seat at the train station and it got keyed. Then I reverse the Porsche in to a post and smash up the bumper.......

What a crap few weeks...

Thanks for your advice too John. Here's to a better few days eh!:) I did drive last night, but my own car this time, little tentative and the conditions were lousy, but I needed to do it for my own peace of mind.

Hopefully no more bad luck for me and the car will in tip top condition with a few modifications (Mr Walker!) and see you in August.:D

Looking forward to it and hopefully the sun will be shining,
We have all had these disasters, the important thing to remember is your a good driver and these things happen.

Good luck with the repairs
Yours sincerely
John

Sorry to read this Nat. Glad you are ok though. It will repair.

"Only a piece of metal", says Matt. Remind me to re educate him next time we meet up :devil::D

Sorry to hear of your mishap and bad fortune, but can't help but wonder why you didn't get Matt on your insurance as a named driver and you on his. Very often the premium is reduced with named drivers and you would both then be fully comp for both vehicles. I obviously do not know your relationship and appologies if I am out of order.

Thanks Geoff, not out of order at all:) . As I said earlier in a post, we had been talking about including one another as named drivers but didn't get round to doing it with one thing or another, so you learn a lesson:o . So, now we will amend that one after this weekend's mishaps.

Ian, thank you. Matt was really lovely about it, which of course made me cry some more! I don't see it as just a piece of metal - I know that car means a lot more to him that he cares to admit I think! Don't think I'll be allowed anywhere near it when you've had your hands on it! :D

I have just read this thread.

Hahahahaha!

Women! Pah!:)

But at least I drive a Merc! :D ;)

LOL - no, just a bit preoccupied with a lot on mind.

However, no excuse for not seeing the BIG X5!

Back to the purple beast of an estate now just in case!

Oh and clearly I will post a thread when I'm about to set off in the car again! ;) :D The roads will be pretty empty then.

If I remember right, you are blonde?

Driving and looking out of the window?

However, no excuse for not seeing the BIG X5!

!

Hmmmm, maybe not eh?

My comments are just what you needed aren't they?:D

The money it costs to repair is a bummer, but it is only a car, and you, nor anyone else is hurt so thats okay really.

I shall avoid any reference to saying "Thats what insurance is for tho" Wouldnt want to stamp on the cake as well!:)

When driving someone else's car you are normally covered by your own insurance. As you said it's normally only third party. However check the small print as I believe some policies state "as long as the car isn't yours or your spouse's" or similar.

Your first accident when the bus hit you... start off by talking to the bus company as there's a chance they'll simply pay for the damage as long as it's not going to be too expensive. If they won't play ball then you'll need to go through your own insurance. If you've got one of the "legal expenses" type policies you might end up going down that route - getting the repair done and claiming back your losses.

Your second accident with the beemer... The beemer is the third party here, so you can go through your insurance if you want. Your insurance will pay for the damage to the third party but not to your car. So depending on how expensive it will be in relation to any excess you would need to pay and/or loss of no claims discount you might be better to pay it yourself. You're deffo on your own paying for the damage to mattc's car tho, it wasn't insured fully comp when you were driving it.

BTW an alloy (and perhaps a tyre) for an X5 might be a lot dearer than you think.

You remember correctly ;)
Yes, naturally looking out of the window of course.
And er, no.

got to be honest here, if the Bmw driver isnt bothered and you are going to pay yourself for all repairs, then i wouldnt inform the ins companies. If he hasnt and is just waiting on your cash then why make your premium increase for nothing.

no point in risking your policy going up - Admiral (and their sub companies) DO charge extra premium at renewal for non-fault accidents, so be wary re the Bus accident.

Write/phone (but put in writing afterwards) to the bus company and ask them if you want to getes for them - you can always just claim direct to their insurers.
