Would you ever leave your car in an airport car park?

I just don't like airports these days .

Paying customers are searched , treated as criminals/terrorists , herded like sheep , told what everyday items you can/can't take with you , made to sit in cramped sardine cans , long waits between arrival and actually going anywhere .

Not for me - I'll drive or take the train .

Car parks in general - I tend to park out of the way / end space leaving only one side exposed , or next to a nice/looked after car which I'd presume the owner is equally careful with .

When we travel from Luton we always take my wife's Peugeot and park in the "park yourself" long term car park. Occasional little dents, but that's what her car is for! :)

While we're in Russia her Peugeot is parked in my Dad's drive in NW London and we take a taxi to Heathrow.

Yes i have had no issues the best ones are the ones you dont have to hand your keys over to anyone so you know its not going to be driven around in whilst you are away

Use meet and greets all the time and never had one issue in quite a number of years. Actually found them to take better care of the car than using short or long stay car parks where I have picked up a couple of dings of the years.

Usually ensure they see me taking a video of the car and them before handing the keys over so they know any damage can be proven. To be fair, finding more of them doing the same these days to cover themselves.

You would be unfortunate to suffer damage and probably less likely than in a public car park.

Phew. Had me worried.
Left my car at BHX for a few days and used the 'official' NCP parky thing where you just drive it into the meet and greet car park right outside arrivals and departures.
Service was good. Car was ready on time in exactly the condition and mileage it was left at.
No complaints at all.

I all ways use Bristols meet and greet car parking service and will be doing for next holiday. I agee with others less likely to get door damage by others . Also a lot of the time cost wise not a lot in it with promotion offers

I have used on site airport car parks for years but never the ones where you hand over you keys.

Yes I would.......much cheaper than taking with me as excess baggage :) :) :)

Just a word of warning. If anyone is even thinking of using the private valet parking company based at Luton Airport that operates out of the short term car park then don't. Most of their drivers are young, look like Afghan refugees and love nothing more than picking up a nice car so they can thrash it.

I am at the airport most days and it shocks me what goes on. Yesterday the approach roads were gridlocked all afternoon when one of their drivers swerved in the tunnel and drove a customers car into a easyjet crew bus.

The airports own valet service is well run with cars parked just a few yards away in their new multistory car park.

I strongly advise against using Bristol Airport’s official car parks. Apart from being a rip-off (like everything else there – I’m sure they’d charge you for breathing their air if they could), we returned one time to find a large dent in the wing of our car. ‘Aha!’, we thought, ‘they have cctv surveillance – we’ll be fine’. Er, wrong. It’s extremely difficult to get through to anyone but, when we did, we got a mixture of responses along the lines of ‘no, we don’t actually have cctv’ (despite what the signs say), ‘yes, we do have cctv but it doesn’t record’(!) and ‘we only have cctv at the pay stations’ (presumably as their only interest is in safeguarding their incoming payments).

Instead we’ve used Ashdale B & B (01275 472159), about 3 minutes’ drive away. We’ve never used their B & B, but have parked there about 20 times and, even though you have to leave your keys with them, and we have had some ‘interesting’ cars over the years, they’ve never been driven other than occasionally to move them round their car park. When you land on your return, give them a call and their minibus (a Merc!) will always there within a few minutes to take you back to your car.

This car was being delivered back to the customer yesterday at Luton by the private meet and greet parking company that operates from the airport. Somehow I don't think the driver was sticking to the 20mph speed limit as he rounded the bend. With traffic often queuing inside the tunnel it looks like he had to swerve to miss it.

Only once had a problem.

I went on a business trip with two colleagues and parked in the multi-storey at Birmingham. At the airport for the return flight I cut my hand open rather badly on a bottle of duty free that just disintegrated in the plastic bag. So i was whipped back land-side to be taken to hospital and get it sorted. While wating for the ambulance I sent my car keys back through to my chums air-side, to drive home in my car.

Several hours later, after a long time trying to find my car they sheepishly rang my missus at home to break the bad news that I might not be home that night and by the way, what's my car registration?

No worries, she said, I'd phoned and was already driving a hire car (one handed), having had a dozen stitches and then found a flight to Manchester. I was home an hour before they were.

.

Worked for a meet and greet company for a few years. In simple terms i would NEVER use one my self! I use just park and always take my keys.

If I use Bristol then I would book Arrow cars as its £20 each way, I would never leave my car with anyone even if I had a really crappy car.

Come to think of it my brother has a Rover 75 worth about a grand and even that had its wing mirror knocked clean off and was covered in mud when the Bristol crew returned it.

I travel a lot with work and always use Purple Parking or APH at Gatwick - never had a problem with my previous beemer.

Used the official valet parking at Stansted a few times, no problem, so convenient also.
