At the risk of being shot for asking the obvious which is the best wax/polish/treatments for mercedes? I have cubanite silver e class and have been using meguiars gold class which gives good results.

Is Zymol any better? Dont natural waxes disintegrate quicker than synthetic ones?

Any views would be much appreciated

Thanks

The answer is YES, but

Natural waxes produce a really deep shine the problem is they are not as robust and actually evaporate over time, generally they will last about 1 month. During winter I would use a synthetic, best of all use a paint sealer like AutoGlym extra gloss protection, or Carlack you could add a coat of meguiars on top if you wished. I now use Meguiars NXT and it is fantastic, better than Gold Class, but not as robust as Autoglym. Save the Zymol for the spring. An other wax of Zymol quality but bit less pricey is P21S Concours Wax.

Check out the ebook below and the "Perfect Shine" section. This talks about this. You can source P21S from the PolishingCompany in the UK. Klasse which is used as part of the "Perfect Shine methodology" has a European equivelant called CarLack in the UK and I am just finding a UK source for this, PM me if you are interested.

You will need to register your copy to get a password that unlocks all chapters. The author, David Bynon, sends free updates 2-3 times a year.)

I am sure you will get loads of comments on this thread, everyone has there own way of doing it and there is really no right answer, the "Perfect Shine" methodology is however well tested in the USA and if you apply the principles you can not go to far wrong.

I am currently in research mode and will hopefully submit a thread on how to do a U.K. sourced "Perfect Shine" in the next few weeks, who knows it might be worthy of a sticky :D

Does the NXT beed, I know that the Gold class was not designed to beed, but I prefer it to "beed" rather than just sitting on the bodywork.

I have heard that Zymol beeds well, but their product range is vast and very expensive, so which of the range is less expensiv but good for a Black car.

The beeding on NXT is amazing. Does reduce in time but it is like having a car covered in Ball bearings when it first gets wet :D . If you blow gently they all roll off. I took a photo the last time I did my car and it rained but I cant find it now. I used NXT before the Summer GTG, it is designed for Black Cars. My only compliant is the finish only last about a month or so. They also do a spray NXT top up wax this is quite good. Protect your rubber before waxing though as it can leave white marks, (this can be removed with Autoglym Bumper Care). The application of NXT can be temperamental. Make sure the paint is clean (i.e. use a paint cleaner or Autoglym super resin, which is a cleaner polish)

The MB Car Care products are made by meguiars and I am sure they are using the NXT for the Car wash (Its the same colour anyway)

Zymol every 2 months causes beading like this........

Which is the better car wash, NXT or Goldclass, the blurb says that the Goldclass has a conditioner in it.

I switched from GoldClass to MB ownbrand and the difference was noticeable. The MB one seemed to make the colour brighter. I have seen some-one wondering if the MB one is re-bottled NXT. I don't know if it is, but it is cheap and easily available at the dealers. I reckon all of the MB bottled stuff is good - paint cleaner, wax, shampoo etc.

I used the MB stuff for a while, then I discovered Zymol, and now I use the MB stuff for my pushbikes, which are as dear to me as my car.

The MB stuff is Meguiars rebranded.
I have used Gold Class, NXT and various Autoglym products.
None seem to last more than a couple of weeks in London weather.

Don't want to complicate matters but a near equivalent to Zymol is P21S. This however is a bit less expensive and can be bought on the internet in the UK

www.thepolishingcompany.com

P21S do an excellent "Paintwork Cleanser" at £15 and "Concours Look Wax" at £27.50

These are the prefered choices by the detailing enthusiasts in the USA for example Autopia and the "Perfect Shine" methodology.

The only thing we can conclude from all these wax/polish discussions is "Each to there own". Application technique and surface prepartation all have an impact on the final finish and robustness. So for some Meguiars will do the job for others Zymol and for some Autoglym. My garage is full of half empty wax and polish containers which I will probably never use but I have a prefered route to get the results I like and these are the results of my experiments.

But I guess this does result in extensive discussions on the forum which makes car care such fun :D

PS Great beeding R2D2 :bannana:

Only one wax for me...

oops sorry, on a Merc...

Wow

That looks amazing, well done.

Here is a couple of NXT pictures for comparison. The car was so slick the bottle kept slipping off, hence the use of the NXT sponge to support it.

Its already been posted, but this is another Zymol finish...

I will try to post some more pics - I also have a couple of shots of the finish on a silver CLK AMG..

Clarky.

I'm with the Zymol boys - no pics unfortunately but after a hard day hd-cleansing and waxing mine and my girlfriend's silver (no apologies Mr Walker!) Astra, the results were astounding

Of course, the same results could have been obtained with Meguairs ...

Black has always shown an excellent shine. My old staff car would display a very similar shine, but I believe it was polished once a week, and in places the orange primer and bare metal glistened!!!

I am looking forward to seeing what sort of job 'the boss' does on our Tealitte Blue car.

We shall be using our NXT, and then I will perhaps change to a different brand after reading more on this interesting subject.

Regards,
John

We need more NXT pictures :D dont forget Meguiars NXT TechWax has only been available in the UK since April 2004 so not many people have started using it.

Here an other with NXT Techwax, used the NXT Techwax booster wax while in France :)

Hmmm Perhaps the Staff Car did not have quite the same glass like finish, but definitely close :)

When it rains do you get the tiny dust circles from the 'beads' of water?

I hope 'beads' is the correct term, it is something I have picked up on this forum?

Beautiful finish, but I have already voted.

John

Oh just found this in my NXT picture file

Here is an other NXT picture.

Not bad this NXT stuff. (PS I am running out of picture space)
