A238 E Class Convertible Roof strings worn and snapped

Just picked mine up from the local dealer after servicing to be told the cord had snapped - seemed fine last night when the roof went up, but hey-ho. Dealer obviously knows about this as they went straight into the "not a recall, so not our problem" mode, so my response, tech bulletin number...

Mercedes residual values under agency model

MB have a direct channel to lease and large fleet buyers, and have done for many years. This hasn't stopped with the new regime. Not all lease companies met MB criteria tho, and those that didn't would source through the dealer network.

    Pot hole damage/insurance write off

My son transports vehicles for Copart (and others) as part of his business - vehicles like yours going into them are treated with exactly the same care as a new vehicle he'd deliver to a customer. Photos, damage sheet, etc. When the salvage vehicles go out to breakers.... well, that's a...

    Ford’s BlueCruise assisted-driving technology - Problems?

There is much spin from different manufacturers as to autonomous driving - and BlueCruise is still classified as SAE level 2, which is the same as the systems in my E400. The difference is in the driver monitoring - mine requires hands on the wheel to indicate that I'm ready to intervene if...

    Ken Block RIP

RIP KB - a truly nice guy. My lad remembers him as one of the best guys in the Goodwood FoS paddock and KB spent time with a number of the marshals who were fans like him. He even stopped for me to take some decent shots of him in the Hoonigan when the boy was trying to get him out onto the...

    Ageism

My kids think I'm too old to drive my cabrio, and are very embarrassed when I'm playing The Prodigy or the latest scandi metal with the roof down... but I'll put that down to jealousy :) Had a nice chat in the car park with a young lad and his passenger in the car park. I guess most would write...

    Ageism

I had to bite my tongue at the Postman Pat comment... Dad had Parkinsons, and had to be evaluated for fitness to drive every year. It was sad when he had to give up his licence but he knew it was the right thing to do. if you watched the recent documentary with Paxman, you'll see he is driven...

Is it still worth going to university?

Both of my kids were put under a lot of pressure to go to Uni when at school... Laddo went to college a did motorsport Engineering. He then went to do an apprenticeship with VAG whilst scrutineering and marshalling. After a number of years in the workshop he's now decided to work for himself...

    Yellow? Yes or no?

My lad had (until recently) a tricked-out Octavia vRS in yellow (black roof and mirrors) - looked the business, and the paint was OK if you looked after it. I like little sports cars in yellow.

    A209 Front Bumper

Evening all - a long time since I've been on here, but now back into MB ownership. Wifey has a nice 05 A209 CLK320 - apart from where she has whacked the front n/s corner of the bumper and broken it. I've looked at the usual places (Mercman, Dronsfield, etc) but had no luck in tracking a...

Halfords 50% off selected socket sets.

Laddo has equipped the bulk of his toolbox with Halfords Pro tools. I'm pretty sure some on here recommended this, with any breakages / wearing being replaced by Snap-On bod. So far, after nearly a year of daily apprentice abuse, they all look as good as new.

Anyone needing to work over Christmas like me?

On call - client managed to ruin yesterday's day with my daughter by escalating an issue that was down to them deleting files on their live system. This morning's email trail is full of "it appears...", "somehow", etc, whilst not a single acknowledgement of their ****-up. Actually had one email...
