I am about to replace the alternator on my 300 TE-24.
How easy/difficult is it to get off (and on again!)? Anything I should know before I get stuck in tomorrow? Any advice welcomed.
TIA
Peter
Hi All,
Just wanted to regail you with an experience I have recently had with my W124 and the heater. Due to various reasons, the heater has not been blowing hot. This occurred after the car had been sat idle in the garage for nearly a month.
Anyway, a quick check when the heater dials...
I have a 300TE Estate - 1990 - Single cam engine
When I "turn the key" the engine fires once then dies and then will not (fire), start - maybe once a week it will fire and continue to run and I can drive the car.........but every other day it will not fire at all and the engine will not run...
Hi. I have recently bought a 1991 300TE. I was pulling out of a junction when suddenly there was a bang and I lost all drive and coasted to a halt. The engine is fine but there is a grinding noise when it is in park. The speedo still works when I rev the engine in drive. But....I have no...
Hi.
I'm having problems with the heater on my 1988 300TE. Every once in a while there is no heat. The fan works fine. When there is no heat there is no power to the Aux water pump under the hood, often the 3 little LEDs on the recirculation, Air Conditioning, and Defrost buttons are on dim and...
Put my 300TE in for an MOT this morning. Even gave the old girl a quick wash the other day :D
Anyway, good and bad news. She didn't pass first time, but what she did fail on is only very minor.
Parking brake efficiency and rear offside fog light not working. That's it - no other advisories...
Found this on another forum describing a virtual total rebuild of a w124 300E TE
lots of pictures and useful info. You will need to register to see the pictures but well worth it if you are a w124 fan.:thumb...
I would be grateful to receive any owners views on the 300TE - 4 Matic.
I am looking for a W124 Estate - LHD to use in France and I have seen a reasonable one with 80,000 miles, one owner, service history for sale at £5K
I think that it is the normal not the 24 valve...
The auto box has been fine until a recent 500 mile motorway day-trip after which it has become somewhat erratic when sometimes it shifts from 1st to 2nd with a delayed and a slight high rev motion .
This only happens when it has been driven a while and at random - not all the time...
Where could I find a detailed procedure for an 300TE autobox oil change? I have purchased the original MERC filter and sump gasket and am not sure whether the normal ATF or Dextron III is the correct oil - is the Halfords or ECP ATF good enough or does it have to be the MERC oil!?! :crazy...
Not quite decided what I'm doing with my W124 and its headgasket issue at the moment, but if anyone has a good 300TE (m103 engine) for sale for around £1000 or less, let me know.
The black plastic bulb holder to the rear driver side light cluster has a snapped locking clip and tends to drop out into the wing void.....I managed to locate a replacement unit from ebay which comes with a long (2ft) wiring loom with an end connector. Any idea where this connector is connected...
I've just seen this car pop up on the internet site Classic Cars for Sale.
Its a 1989 M-B 300TE Estate Auto in dark blue with two previous owners, full service history, air-con, sunroof and cruise control. Its only got 89000 and its going for (what I think is a bargain price of ) £995.
