The Crank Pulley on my SL500 seems to be a bit bent and knocked about. This is evident when the engine is running and the belts are noticeably wobbling. I suspect that the people who replaced the water pump have given it a hard time !
The water pump has already been replaced and the engine...
Hi,
Having trawled the forums and also spoken to a specialist garage, it seems 99% sure that my problem is a crank sensor.
Basically, the car starts first time in the morning. However, when I get back in after a short journey, it turns but refuses to start. After leaving it for a further...

Hallo all,
2 weeks ago i bought a C220 CDI '01
It normally starts very quick.
BUT !! For these 2 weeks, since i bought it, i had problem starting it 3 times (happened just 3 times)
It needs maybe 5-10 minutes of turning, until it starts.
Last time, i started, moved the car 500 yards down...

What happens when the rubber spacer behind the crank pulley (I think?) perishes, shrinks, and allows the hardened steel pulley wheel to wobble on its axis?
It's leaking oil and requires an engine-out repair, the cost of which approaches 50% the value of the car...
Hi,
Have seen similar issues posted on the forums, but nothing specific to the W211s, hence this thread:
Turn key in ignition to starter engage position, there is a click but no cranking the engine by the starter. This happens intermittently, may be once in 10 starts or so. When it does...
Replacing the crank sensor on our "R" reg Merc CLK 320 with thanks to the forum for the great instructions.
I was led to believe that the replacement Bosch part number was 0261 210170
but upon pulling the sensor, the old sensor has the part number 0261 210142
Can anybody shed light on...
Lisas car has a small oil leak that i initially thought was the rocker gaskets but after replacing the cps the other day the rockers seem pretty dry but the cps when removed was soaked in engine oil.
So assuming the rear seal has gone? has anyone else come across this on the 112 engine...
Hello,
How can I make sure the crankcase ventilation is free?
There was some oil in the elbow near the turco( intercooler), will this mean the turbo is leaking or the crancase ventilation is blocked?
The EGR valve is shut.
Cheers.
Olivier
Had a nasty moment yesterday when this went on one of my V8's.
No sweat, easy replacement and all is back to normal, but I was having a chat with my techie who reckons they are a fairly frequent failure, particularly on petrol engines and especially on V8's. Something to do with the heat...
Hi All,
Got a real problem with my 2001 C200K and I would be grateful for any help advice etc......
The car has been no problem recently and then, all of a sudden, refuses to crank. All lights come on on the instruments, and I have checked the voltage across the battery as around 12.2V, I...
I have a 1987 300D which is auto and has the OM603 engine. The rear crank seal is starting to go as I have noticed a few drops of oil on the garage floor and it is engine oil coming from between the engine and gearbox. How long should I leave this as there is not a lot of oil, but it can only...
It looks as though the crank angle sensor may have failed on my CLK, can anyone help me with the MB and/or Bosch part number? It’s a 2000 CLK320.
Bit of background: Last Wednesday, out of the blue, it failed to start. Three attempts later, I did the obligatory ‘swear at the car’, and hey...
Hi Guys,
Next mod to the car is going to be a larger crank pulley next month. I have sent an email to ASP Racing, and recieved the following response, but it makes little sense to me other than saying they cant supply it!!
Has anyone done this mod to the 230k engine, he suggests...
1997 Sprinter 310d ,120k.On star, shows crank sensor as faulty, power is down, but starts first time every time.Sounds slightly quieter than usual and touch thirstier than normal. No smoke from exhaust.Turbo seems ok.Will the crank sensor affect power and economy?
My C43 broke down on Friday in heavy rush hour traffic and once recovered started my research. From reading this forum and some others, it transpired crank position sensor was the most likely culprit, with the cam position sensor being the 2nd most likely.
Local Mercedes dealer had both...
Before I brought my C240 it had the Crank pulley changed, unfortunately the oil seal is now leaking, I assume its straight forward to replace the seal, on other cars I have had I have made a tool to enable the seal to be pushed in using the crankbolt, in order to do this I need to know the...
A few times now when I've turned the ignition key the engine has taken a bit longer to start than normal. Sometimes it's fine but once in a while it can take a fair few "clicks" to start the engine. Is this something to worry about ?
