So a rear damper bush is rattling. A replacement damper is stupidly expensive (think near £500) - and merc don't list replacement bushes - are the bushes replaceable??? Is there a part that's easily available?

Anyone with an old 208 should consider getting their steering damper checked at next service. Just had mine replaced, crikey what a difference...no more shakes and shimmies...does now feel a little 'disconnected' though.
Making the most of the weather today, time for new front discs/pads, also have new bottom ball joints, as i have a slight judder at 60mph, but just noticed one steering damper( which is what i assume to be) is leaking, Now would this be the likely culprit? i do not want to change the ball...
Yesterday I noticed a nasty rattle at idle.
Found that the bolt that holds the idler pulley damper to the tensioning lever had gone, so the shock was swinging loose and pulley was bouncing around.
Today I removed the shock & spring and have rotated the lever enough to get a new bolt in place...
hi guys,
i just wondered if anyone knew off hand just how bad or big a job it is to replace a rear shock on a e220 w124.
she is starting to feel a little bouncy at the rear when desending from speed humps, at any speed.
although this is not noticable on normal roads at all; even when cornering...
I have been told that the RHD 124 Cabriolets were never fitted with the vibration damper on the left front suspension turret that the LHD cars got.
I have looked on mine and it is not fitted. Does this ring true in other RHD markets I wonder..........
If so, was there ever a reason given...
My nearside rear damper gave up the ghost completely a couple of weeks ago in the cold spell.
The offside damper is still fine and is operating normally, despite it being nearly 20 years old.
While I was looking around for prices, I stumbled across a single damper on Ebay, a new original...
at the recent service, it was recommended that the steering damper should be changed.
Doing a quick search on the forum, it looks like its a DIY job and the part is fairly cheap.
Question is, i've not noticed any degradation or adverse feedback on the steering wheel - is it worth getting my...
My 2000 W215 is currently being serviced and the dealer phoned me to say there is a noise from the steering pump. They said the cheapest option at £157 inc parts, labour and VAT, is to replace the damper.
They still held out the possibility this may not solve the problem and the pump may need...

On my recent MoT one of the points worthy of mention was the steering damper which is rubbing.
I am getting a squeak/squeal when turning the wheel, not too loud but as the fluid levels are OK and the belt doesn't appear to be slipping I'm guessing the damper may be the cause?
Can anyone...
Hi
I've tracked the rattle on my engine down to the auxillary drive belt damper, an easy job I thought, however the bottom bolt hits the pulley:eek:
Is there an easy way to do this or does the pulley have to come off?
Cheers
Phil

My C43 has started exhibiting slight sights of a steering anomaly.
Its hard to explain but sometimes on a good surface road you can feel a strange pulling to one side or the other.
The car has just passed its MoT with no mention of suspension component wear (certainly not to MoT standard)...
Hi
At my last service about four months ago, the tech added an advisory note to the service report stating that the steering damper was leaking slightly and that it should be replaced *soon* - when questioned this was refined to 'before the next service' - which in my case could be well into...
