Hello to all my Mercedes Euro mates! I am a newbie on this forum and would like to post a wanted add. I have a 560SEC 1988 USA/California version, since I live in California and I have the need to locate a set of differential ring and pinion gear from an European 380 or 450 SE from the 1980's...
Hi - crawled under my 1993 500SE W140 today to top up the diff oil. The drain plug is clearly there but I cannot see (or feel) the top up plug.
Can anyone help?
Cheers

I emailed AMG in Affalterbach for a quote to install a rear slippy diff for my CLS 55. They will of course do it, and will need the car for 2 days.
It will also cost Euro 4,159.05 :eek:
I went with my son to MB Northampton to see the pothole damage to two front wheels and tyres following a new diff not solving a noisy rear end. The wear to the near side rear was down to 3mm on the inner part but was around 6mm on the outer after seven thousand miles. This indicates a camber...
I am going to replace the diff, will it be wise to changed the mounts as well, or they should be fine?
Is it hard to do it, or a nightmare like some other bushers?
There are 2 at the back and 1 up I think ???
Cheers.

Hi
Am new to this forum so I approach with humility.
I recently, in a fit of recklessness, bought an 1997 w210 e430.
After driving it a few hundred miles I noticed oil spots on the drive and upon examination it is coming from the differential and looks as though it is spraying the oil...
Apparently there is 1,1 litre of oil in the diff, mercedes is selling one litre bottle for 25 pounds, ouach:wallbash:
Is there any oil that would be suitable to use and from a reputable company but not at the rip off price from the stealer knowing that I'll need 2 bottle...
Cheers.

Just saw a leak at the side of the differential... Ordered 2 seal from mercedes
Mercedes were quoting me 7 hours work as you need to take the differential out as there is a wee clip holding the shaft inside, silly design...
Can I get away with leaving the diff in place and work it out from the...
My E320CDI Has started to make a bit of drone from the rear. I originally thought it might be a wheel bearing, but now i am wondering if it could be the differential unit.
I have been told that there are additives you can add to the oil in the differential. Does anyone know if these actually...
as per title does someone have installed one? Any input, experience and in particular how can work with ESP/ASR?
probably the factory one is provided with a connection for the sensor of ASR, so the new LSD how could be interfaced?
thanks for any input
Onto another job on my list of maintenance tasks for my beloved S320!
For no good reason other than it seems like the right time to check I want to make sure that my diff has the correct amount of fluid into it (She's just turned 117K so it seems like a good bit of preventative maintenance)...
Hi all
Quick question, did any W202 come with a limited slip differential as standard or optional?
Does anyone make an aftermarket LSD setup that fits in the W202 stock housing? Kleeman make one, but only for V8 and V12 engines.
Cheers

Ok now we've removed the differential which happened to be an open diff, quote alot of the teeth were missing and there was metal filings dropping on the floor, and some of the actual gears were very loose... so glad it didnt break while i was driving.
Now lies my next question:
Before i...
Ok i have a very important question here and this could lead to me going back to the indy's that i thought i trusted and really having a go at them.
We removed the exhaust fully and we had the propshaft infront of us, now i must explain that the car is on a ramp with all four wheels unable to...
Today I saw a Texaco Garage in Tetbury offering petrol at 1.16 a litre and diesel at 1.32 a litre - that's a massive 16p differential - has anyone seen a bigger one.
I re-did my calculations for a manual CR-V petrol v diesel ( as we are thinking of changing the wife's) and the breakeven with...
