Well what can i say just been to the 124works, a great day out well recommended . Mr walker what a gentleman and a dam fine mechanic repaired my 210 to perfection no more problems, and after a few other jobs thrown in that he found a price that was unbeatable .... And my car is going back for some further work in the next 2 weeks ......the cross member plate thingy has rusted away .... So if you have a 210 check underneath for rusty bits then give Ian a ring .... A big thanks to Ian ..... Very patient, very meticulous , a true professional..... See you in 2 weeks :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

What a glowing report Mr Walker.

I take it the glow plugs came out ok?

Totally gobsmacked. One of the easiest glow plugs I have ever removed.

Point to note for 210 owners. When you remove the under tray pull back the front guard and look at the cross member, check it for rust. Mark's car had previously passed an mot  . It was obvious that it was a hasty job. Nuff said.

Priced a replacement panel for the front cross member. Total cost of LESS that £18  And that was from Mercedes, not a 3rd party supplier.

The MOT examiner is only allowed to do an inspection and doesn't remove any panels. How would they see the corroded undersheet?

I agree to a point, so being devils advocate, if you have a serious rust problem all you have to do is fit a panel over it and it will pass an mot.

Being serious if I may I think the standards of mot's for this type of issue need tightening up. If the Chassis member had corroded though it would be a serious hazard to health, but its covered by a panel so that makes it safe. :o

People only spot the rusty subframes when they drop the undertray to do an oil change, when they go to MB the oil gets sucked out so the trays never come off.

I don't envy you having to weld in the repair section...

I agree with mot bit but this car has had its plastic try removed by Mercedes in the last 2.5 years .... on various repair work under warrant..I had a leaking oil sump plug done at Manchester ... the ATF fluid was replaced at Whitefield ..and had all its panels removed and replaced under the rust warranty ..... the front end bumper and grill had to come off when the replaced the horn mech ..... and during each SERVICE AND MOT which has been done at MB CARLISLE ....MB MANCHESTER ...AND MB WHITEFIELD ....there was an inspection of and I quote...........CHASSIS AND LOAD BEARING BODY COMPONENTS
CHECK SIGNS OF DAMAGE AND CORROSION ...BOTH TICKED AS DONE ....this is a replacement part which is known to suffer from corrosion how on earth could they have not spotted it ... iam not bothered about the mot ...... but I just don't trust Mercedes Benz ... they have had enough chances to spot it and I have my own thoughts on that issue

If Merc's leaked oil then it would not go rusty. Again, too well built

They are not allowed to tell the customer as they might then make a corrosion claim.

You will be pleased to hear mine is in really good nick having been painted, rustproofed and fitted spacers to keep the airflow.;)

It's only the bottom closing plate, so not a major components, although it wants to be right if possible.
