Hi All,

The time has come for me to get the tyres changed on the S and looking for some recommendations.

I am really struggling to get a set I want that I can have on the front and the rears (really wanted the Goodyear eagle F1 Asc 2) however I cant find hardly anyone that does them for the front size (255 35 20)

So reluctantly I have decided I don't mind a different brand on the front 2 from the 2 rear.

Does anyone have any experience of any or which will be better than the other:

Rear:

Fronts:
Avon ZZ5 XL 255/35YR20 Y 97Y tyres with Price Promise Guarantee!

Goodyear Eagle F1 ASY 2 XL 255/35YR20 Y 97Y tyres with Price Promise Guarantee!

Bridgestone S001 XL 255/35YR20 Y 97Y tyres with Price Promise Guarantee!

Ps. It looks like I can get the F1'a all round if I go to different tyre fitters.
Any other tyre brands I have missed I could look at.

I've used eagle f1s and I'm a fan personally. But it was on a fwd car. Not a Merc. I currently have a rx8 that i use Vredsteins, and they are so grippy in the wet. Feel totally confident with them on. They are Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta. Think they been replaces by Ultrac Vorti. Heard they're pretty good as well. I'm going to get Vredstein Sportrac or Quadrac for my w201 as soon as i get a chance.

I used to be a die-hard Michelin fan but since trying Goodyear AF12's - I'm a convert!

Excellent grip in all weathers, low road noise and good on the wear as well as the price being very good.

Can't see me changing from them again as things stand...

I've got 265 Avons on the rear of my Z4 at the moment. Only a few weeks old but they seem to perform very well.

I used to have the Vredestein Sessanta on an Audi S8 and, like you, was impressed by them. The Vorti however are not a patch on them in my opinion. What seems like a very hard compound, and very little grip with them. I'm another one who'll be going to Goodyear after these have worn down.

Try tyreleader.co.uk their prices look quite good

Just last week I bought a pair of Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 255/35R20 from Tyreleaders for £150 each delivered for my W221.

Can't go wrong with Pirellis.

I went for MO spec, but AO spec is usually a little bit cheaper.

EDIT - Just checked, the MO spec is £145 today!

I heard something about the compound being different. Maybe it's leaning too much toward a sports car side now. Hard tyre wall compounds suit RX8s, maybe not so hot on saloons.
