I got an alternator warning on a recent trip accompanied by a high pitched squeal and on looking found that the belt had broken as well as the deflection wheel on top left. This in turn fractured the plastic diesel pipe just above. I would appreciate fitting instructions for same and if possible a diagram of belt route. Thank you in advance.

Broken ribbed belt and deflection pulley

thanks for the reply and diagram. I think that the deflection wheel just shattered. The alternator turns freely in both directions as does power steering, air con and water pump.

I got the belt diagram...thank you very much. Would like procedure for tensioning belt. I have fitted new deflection pulley and diesel pipe. It is my first time using this facility and I am delighted at the help and advice being given by everyone.

You need to locate the tensioner to get the belt on.

You'll need a 17mm socket and possibly a long bar. It is easier to access from underneath and I think you can use a pin to hold back the tensioner until the belt is on, after which the tension will adjust automatically.

Going to do that now...thanks again. Still getting used to using this posting and threading and just as I'm having some success with this job some vandals broke into my Toyota Previa, which I use for work, during the night, smashing the rear window in the process. Anyway cant let them get to you!.
