2002 W211 E270 CDI - Flat battery, cant get it started. Immobilised?

Hi all,
I was just about to buy a friends 2002 E270 CDI AVANTGARDE, but I cant get it started.
He has emigrated so the car has been stood for 9 months.
He put a new battery in 3 months ago and it started up fine, then he said the next day it wouldnt start.
I took the battery off and replaced it with a new one and still no joy.
It unlocks, sat nav/radio turns on, lights turn on, all electrics turn on as they should but as I turn the key there is no noise from the starter, nothing, not even a click.

Warning lights come up saying:

• SRS Restraint system defective
• ESP not available
• Malfunction, electrical consumers switched off

I assume these are due to the battery being low, which is why I changed the battery....but still no luck!!!
Can anybody advise what I can try?
Is there a possibility that the battery is coded to the car? Or even the immobiliser is activated?
The car locks and unlocks from the fob.

From reading other posts on the forum I have learnt the following:

- W211s have two battery's, but the front auxiliary battery won't be causing this fault
- I need an auto electrician to see if there is power going to the starter motor
- if there is no power to the starter motor, he needs to check all fuses including the module under the glovebox
