I think they are a great car. I prefer the diesel manual as they seem to be very good so far.

I know on the early car 99-04, people use to say to stay away from the Auto's due to problems - Did the facelift sort these problems out ?
Are the Facelift auto's still one to avoid ?
She's probably looking at a petrol with her price range.
Thanks :thumb:

Not special edition. It has the optional sports pack which on a pre-facelift W169 (which the above is) has the below.

Sports Package
17" alloy wheels (4) – 7-spoke design 7J x 17 (tyre size 215/45)
Exhaust tailpipe – large oval stainless steel
Instrument cluster with silver back plate
Leather trimmed gearshift with aluminium cap
Leather trimmed sports steering wheel and handbrake lever
Radiator grille louvres in matt silver with perforated design
Sports suspension (lowers vehicle by 10mm)
Sports pedals with stainless steel inserts and rubber studs

Tyre pressure loss warning system

Thanks for that info ;)
One thing we did notice that is differnt to the other W169's we drove was the Air-Con button -
On the normal Avantgarde's it was labelled "Air Con Off" so when the light is lit, the Air-Con is Off.
On this car it is Labelled "Air Con" so when the light is lit, the Air Con is Off.
Does anyone why/when this was changed ? Is it a Sports Pack thing ?

Thanks Again :thumb:

In other models like w203 the air con is on when the ac button light is off. I believe this was the same in early W169 models. Then in later cars it changed and the air con is on when the ac button light is on. Mines the later.

We test drove a 05 & 06 W169 and the Air-Con was warm/not cold, then when we test drove the 08, it was ice cold as you would expect !
Do you know if it was just a case of a button/label change or was there any other changes to the Air-Con system or to the car for that matter ?

Thanks :thumb:

My Sister-In-Law is considering a 2005 ish A-Class similar to this Mercedes-Benz A Class A170 Avantgarde SE 5dr Tip Auto 1.7 2006
or this Mercedes-Benz A Class A150 Avantgarde SE Tip Auto 1.5 5dr 2006

Was all the problems sorted out on the 04/05 facelift ?
What problems should we be looking for when viewing ?

She wants -
Probably Petrol - 1.5 or 1.7, maybe diesel
5 Doors
Auto
Avantgarde , maybe Elegance
Reasonable miles
About £5k ish

Any info greatly appreciated :thumb:
I have an A170 CDI and it's a top car, just done a round trip to France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with an average of 63 mpg. Get the diesel manual

I miss our one, they are really nice little cars and very under-rated for what they are. The Avantgarde is the best trim and comes with loads as standard. A150 works ok in manual form and is nippy enough (also very smooth/ refined) but if auto A170 worth the extra probably. Reliability generally excellent and running costs reasonable. Try and go for a later 06/ early 07 as some of the 05s/ early 06s suffer from rust.

I,too, think they are under-rated (though must admit to bias as I am on my second). Bit like the Audi A2 I think they will continue to have a loyal ( although perhaps niche) following even though the last one has now rolled off the production line.
