2025 road tax

Not for those of us who are exempt and don’t pay VED .

People with cars aged 40+ and those registered as disabled .
A very small proportion of vehicles out of the total.

Bureaucracy's lovely. Especially spiteful bureaucracy.

We have cheap petrol yet, tax through annual licences on "ownership" rather than use, and on physical presence in a few city centres but not actual miles driven.

And so we end up with tax evasion with half a million untaxed cars being driven on UK roads.

Why not just grab it by the scruff, cancel the £8 billion road taxation altogether and replace it by increasing fuel tax by a 15 pence ? it sounds a lot but it's tax revenue neutral

Less administrative cost and less evasion.

A downside is that it would encourage ownership of second, more fuel efficient car ownership, which would be trouble for parking, but good news for pollution.

Pollution in town centres? Just continue to charge congestion charge until reliable tax per mile technology arrives.
