2025 road tax

I walked past an old ‘G’ plate Rover earlier, think it was a P5(b?)

Proper ratty looking thing, flat/almost matt black patchy looking paint etc. Stopped on the corner of a high street outside a fast food place. I saw it drive past a few minutes earlier.

As I got closer could see a proper hole and slit sized rust ‘crack’ in the near side sill at the back. Hole was the size of your fist and the crack went a good bit along under the rear door.

Didn’t bother (or have the inclination!) to check if it was MOTd but I suspect not…

My thoughts were if they’re clearly that unbothered with something so obvious, you can only imagine what the rest of it is like underneath.

Surely would fail an MOT test on sharp edges as well as structural weakness. Certainly did not look well cared for like some suggested and was obviously is use and on the road.

That is the very reason that the MOT exemption should be revoked.

Recently got the VED reminder for the S204 2008 due end of Feb, 178Gm/Km at £335 compared to £320 last year, made me also look at the SLK due end of May and £415! Can see us shortly going down to one car and no summer toy, VED is getting ridiculous! It was initially aimed solely at road maintenance, every time I go out I'm playing pothole dodgems which makes a total mockery of the original intent of VED.

I'm in the same boat, tax at the end of this month for the S204.
I suppose I shouldn't moan at a £15 increase on last year. Some owners are being asked to find a lot more.

....It was initially aimed solely at road maintenance....
Unfortunately that had not been the case for nearly 90 years. Road tax has not been spent entirely on roads since the 1937. The money from road tax is now part of the general government fund, which is used for many purposes.

£35 again, 65y c250d wagon, thats my pot hole fixed, next customer please. 😇

Well my tax as gone up £15 from last year for 6 months .Tax on my car is due in March 2025 it is now £185 ,they have us all over a barrel , Hate to think what it will be next year Like that song Killing me Softly by Roberta Flack .

The sooner it is added to the fuel duty the better.
