And another Bonnet frame this time

Sorry for so many individual posts but i can only seem to get one photo attached at a time.

NSF Wing this time just above mudflap

get to your dealer quick.

You should be able to claim for 4 doors, bonnet, front wings, tailgate.

Also check the front spring hangers, radiator support panel, rear wheel arches.

It's sad to say but this is all down to poor paint coverage and that the car has no rust preventative wax applied, other than in the sills, when built.

Don't give up if you get fobbed off. All these areas are common problem areas.

Dieselman

They want me to pay 70% which amounts £2000. If they do not budge i will contact as many consumer affairs people as possible and leave the car outside the local dealers with a large notice board on the roof to warn as many people as i can.

My conclusion is that there is just not enough paint on the car some areas of the car have less than 60 microns

I have spoken to a lawyer this morning who is willing to help 'us' as a club and will draft a letter for us to send to MB.

I really believe that we stand a chance as a club and we all get together on this one.

Anybody else with corrosion problems please contact me, I am compiling a file.

one of many

More and more and more

Bottom of o/s rear door

Another one of the bonnet, with the bonnet open and looking directky up from below the grill. This car is only 5yrs and 5mths old.

ditto

5/5/98 210 e diesel in all the same places as yours  but i like it

From all the pictures some of you have had it bad...when mine was discovered it is as not as bad like that..and they did the work for me under warranty..the car is 05/98 E240, which means only a few days before it hit 6 years...already put in another claim when sending in the car for repairs a month ago...rear wheel arch and bootlid.

So far have gotten two new front wings, four new doors and resprayed the whole sides. Anyways here's some pictures for those compiling this and hopefully MB would see that their products would be a disgrace in about 5-6 years from leaving their plant.

Would be sorting out the W202 next as have discovered rust on 2 doors..it's a 09/98 with FMBSH

I have just looked at my car and have the same rust on the doors :( and some around the boot catch and front near side arch. I bought my car privately, and it only has partial MB history, although it has been maintained by a MB trained independent guy. It was originally bought from a dealer over 200 miles from where I live  Does it have to have full MB history to get warranty work carried out? & do I have to take it back to the original dealer, or can I just go to my local one?

local dealer

follow this thread and do the same as us,

Can't work out how to post pictures  :o so put them onto this site
There are 6 of them.. I also have rust on the front arch, but it was to dark to take the pics. I will add them to the site when I get the chance

If the car was registered before November '98 then the warranty is six years unconditional. If its after then it's 30 years conditional on servicing at MB dealer within the last 24 months.

Volvo used to play this game on repairs. The warranty was billed as for life but in reality you had to have the car main dealer serviced and the life was projected to be 100,000 miles so the payouts were proportional.

The warranty was nearly as crap as the car reliability. Not surprisingly it only lasted about 20 months and half of it didn't work after the first year was over.

Can anybody who has not already sent me pictures of their corrosion, please can you PM me for my email address and send me your pictures along with a schedule of your car including:

Registration Number:
Chassis Number:
Model Designation:
Mileage:
Date of registration:

Owner’s Name:
Owner’s Address:
Owner’s contact telephone:

If you cannot find out the VIN number I can do that for you.

Also a big thank you to Sean (C240Sport97) for the draft letter, I think it should get the response we need.

Also can anybody remember any advertising lines from MB that they use in their adverts to get across the quality of their products.

Jimmy

MB were advertising a year or so ago stating that if you bought their car now when a new baby arrived you could then give the car to your sibling in 20years time once they had learnt to drive.
Will have a look through some old newspapers to see if i can find a copy, i think it was for the A Class.

interesting article by Quentin Wilson I think I mentioned it before about buying a used Mercedes from a dealer and the enjoyment of owning a car that had been checked by a dealer ......... this just to back the cars that have been purchased on an approved or signature scheme maybe it could go into thr draft :bannana:

Just discovered that its not just C-Classes and E-Classes that suffer the rust problem!

This guys Mercedes CL also had rust problems!

"When the car was 12 months old I noticed that rust had appeared on the driver's rear quarter panel. The dealers resprayed it without an argument. Two years later rust has re-appeared on both rear quarter panels. The dealers have offered to respray the panels again without any argument. I demanded that the defective panels are replaced. They had to consult with Mercedes Customer Services, who have refused to replace them."

Even Auto Express Know mercedes rust!

"For years Mercedes had a cast-iron quality reputation. No longer, sadly. The company has finally admitted problems by promising that it will be topping the quality charts again by 2006. Jurgen Hubbert, boss of Mercedes and Smart, recently said the company was working like hell to iron-out problems in electrical systems - the electronic Bosch brakes have caused huge problems on the new E-Class. But the real truth is that Merc's reputation has been tumbling for nearly a decade and it's not just electrical woes.

The baby A-Class was troublesome, as was the first version of the current S-class. But the real humdinger was the US-built M-Class SUV. This car was catastrophic thanks to poor build and ill-judged cost-cutting. Even worse, recent editions of German motoring magazines have been running pictures of the rampant rust blighting many of the E-class series introduced in 1996. It wouldn't happen to a Lexus."

I was informed on Tuesday that corrosion warranty works are now being performed on all MB models bar the new E class.

Even the CL doesn't escape because the paint is being chipped due to there being no rear wheel-arch protection pad on the outside.

Look at a Porche 911 rear wings to see what I mean.
