Success!! After waiting a few weeks and then having no-one return my calls I went off down to the dealer expecting a heated discussion, but to my suprise he said that it was all approved and has no-one contacted you? You would have thought they would have fallen over themselves to pass on good news. I have to wait for the bodyshop to contact me and arrange a time. Could still go pear shaped I suppose.

This for 4 rusty doors and a tailgate at 4.9 years old on a high mileage E class estate and no MB service history! My faith in MB is restored!

Nick

Mine is going in Wednesday for photos etc for submission. Also having aircon sorted (at bloomin last) and a nice new set of spark plugs.

Had the photos etc done on our trusty rusty W210 estate on Friday. Already had the tailgate done and I've now found that all 4 doors were rusting under the top door seals. The drivers door even has a big hole at the bottom !!! Just a tad over 4 years old. Disgusting. Seems to be a design issue with the doors as far as I can tell. Water will get trapped under the seals and just sits there. Assuming it gets approved (it had blooming well better get approved), I'll be having to door panels off when it gets back and covering the internals with rust proofing.

have just rang body shop and the following repairs are going to be done

NEW,,,,, bonnet,, 2 wings,, 4 doors,, boot lid,, repairs to the rear wings,, and primed and totally resprayed, i am now in a rangle about a car for the 6 weeks yes 6 weeks it will be in the body shop, as the body shop don;t have an auto and the dealers have said mb would not lone one for that lenght of time but if its under warrenty work this should be available to me should it not ???? has anyone had a lone car for that lenght of time :bannana:

Well according to the above link
it says 5 days for a courtesy car

"Replacement car (if available) for the duration of the repair work, for 5 days maximum (fuel etc. not included)"

and IF it's available

Six weeks???

Thats longer than it takes to design, build and market a new model??? Astonishing.

MB are still ringing me, asking to see my service history. Mark, do you have full service history? Did they ask to see it? Not sure if they are trying to get out of it with me.

Good to hear you got a result anyway, well done.

fmbsh

yes jimmy full history and all repairs, this car from dealer as well and i have payed a few dollers more for the so called approved used, they keep telling me this is a good will repair and not warrenty work, £6,800 quid of good will ?? never in a month of sundays :crazy:the full history is on the putor and no they did not ask to see it.
this result will not stop me in supporting others with any info i gleen it will be shared on this forum

Ted. I can't quite work out which part of the car the third picture is of. Can you elaborate ?

Its the front of the drivers door handle....
I'll see if I can find some better ones.

Heh heh. The camera seems to have autofocused on the reflection of your forehead :) Paintwork must be nice and shiney! On a more serious note, I've not seen one rust there before but it's not good. I'd be pushing very hard on a claim. However, I did have some slightly discouraging news on my latest claim. The bodyshop manager said MB woul dbe unlikely to approve the cill repairs as the rust was at the point where the cill cover abuts the cill itself. Apparently, that doesn't consitute perforation. Same with the wheel arch rust. It's working it's way along from the edge of the arch and therefore doesn't consitute a perforation. I wait the results of the claim.

Just been to MB Northampton with my service record. Basically MB are trying to say no FULL MB service history = no warranty claim! The service manager implied that because my service history is not fully stamped by a MB dealer then I have little or no chance of getting the £1200 quote by their bodyshop carried out under warranty or goodwill.

Can they do this?

Anybody know the details of the block exemption ruling?

How about the Monty rule?

I await a responce from MB, not expecting a good one so I shall send my letter and files of all the cars they you lot of submitted to me to Mr Kelly at MB next week.

I've recently been advised that MB offered no anti-corrosion warranty until Mobilo life came into force, and that MB do want evidence of service for corrosion claims.

In addition I was told that many claims are submitted under the code for paintwork claim and not corrosion claim, which is why they are rejected.

Apparently MB will consider claims on vehicles upto eight years old.

General vehicle condition plays a part in the process. If you drive a neglected shed then a claim is very unlikley, if you keep your car in good condition then this will support your claim.

Jimmy, I got a phone call from my local dealer approving "the repairs" saying when the car is booked in (14th June) and that I will get a courtesy car for the full 19 days. I am still waiting for a letter that they said would follow the phone call detailing all the work to be done..I have only a sketchy service history as far as MB are concerned, so cannot see why it should be a problem in your case. I will e-mail you a copy of the letter when I recieve it, however I would prefere that you wait until my repairs are started before you throw it back at MB. Hope this helps

@jimti,

Well done, there may be hope yet for mine.

I would appreciate a copy of the letter and I will be diplomatic!

just 1 more thing, I have just noticed some spots of rust on the roof, may be from being parked under a tree and having things fall on it, as they are at different parts of the roof, but I am going to see if they will fix that as well.. Fingers crossed

It appears I won't be getting a letter explaining the repairs, however when I spoke to my local dealer, they explained that this was in fact warranty work and not just "good will" work.. The repairs had to be approved by MB UK before they could commit to doing them.
3 doors being replaced, 1 door being repaired and boot lid being replaced
My circumstances are, I bought the car privately in April this year and only discovered the rust after visiting this forum, the car has limited MB history, last MB service was Feb 2001 when the car was 2 years old @ 54k. it is now 135k and has not visited an MB site for over 3 years until I took it to my local dealer for the rust.
I have decided to book it in for an "A" service while they are dealing with the rust as it is due in 1400 miles anyway,(last service @122k) just so it has been looked at by a dealer and will continue to use them for the smaller service. I must say I found them very approachable, but I guess I would be at £81 per hour

Ignorance was bliss till I read this thread, and gave my August 1998 E300TD estate a close inspection. You guessed it - advanced rust under the door seals, slight around the tail-gate lock, some under the bonnet. Big disappointment after my last Mercedes (1988 W124 230TE) which was rust free after 10 years.

I rang MBUK customer services to ask for the details of warranty. He stated that for August 1998, it was only 1 year, and made a comment about what to expect on a 5 year old car.

I gather from previous posts that it should be 6 years for corrosion on this car. If that's so it's off to MB Southampton for a warranty claim inspection..........

So I took the car into MB Southampton four weeks ago for a corrosion claim. The car has 83,000 miles and three previous owners before I bought it in Feb this year from a non-franchised dealer. It has 3 MB service stamps plus 3 others, with last MB stamp over 2 years ago.

Anyway MB Southampton rang yesterday to say the warranty claim had been approved for 4 new doors and a tailgate repair/respray. Strange after MB UK Customer Services were so sure it was only a 1 year corrosion warranty.

And when it's fixed I'm selling and finding another W124 E class estate because imho this thing's a noisy rattling tank with rubbish build quality compared to the 124.

Hmmmm..... They don't make cars like they used to I wish we still had it today.......

The 124 is a better car i agree. The 210 mechanicals are still as good as the 124 it is just let down by rust and poor cabin finish. IMO
