300,000 Miles in E300 Turbodiesel (At last)

Saw a 124 the other day, hadn't ever noticed the vented front wing before.

"Sprinter vents" are commonly used in the VW world for golfs that need more air :)

The vents were standard on the diesels after facelift in 1993 (??).

Do we have a high mileage register? I seem to remember something like it on a Volvo website.

Mine won't figure in it, as it is a relatively low mileage example at a mere 155K.

We have two of these E300TDs.
They certainly are mile-eaters.;)
I clock up a steady 25k per year, and Mrs J a bit less.
BUT ...
I fear they will both disappear into a heap of bodywork rust long before I wear the engine out.:(

Update 330000 smiles :-)

Hi Folks

Just thought I would update the mileage as of this afternoon heading into Dumfries on the A701

and still not used a full tank of diesel.

Tank was nearly empty by the time I got to Cairnryan, I did another 88 miles before filling in Belfast:eek::eek: was worried in case she took air going up the linkspan onto the ferry but she was fine:D

Hi.

I am desperate.

Every time I put in a search for 300td won't idle your user name keeps appearing.

Well....my 300td will not idle.

Will rev smoothly over 1200rpm but below this will start and only run briefly.

Chug chug then cuts out.

Chucks out fumes too,not smoke but fumes that make your eyes water.

I have had so much of the car checked and parts replaced it has become really expensive.

There is kind of no going back.

People keep saying scrap it but that's easy to say when you havent spent as what I have.

I simply need to have the car running to at least get some reward for the effort put in.

I would appreciate any ideas you may have

We have a W202 C250TD here, its done 303K miles.... failed on one bush for the MOT!

We are keeping it for what its cost us... Runs so nice.

The elderly owner just did trips up and down to Scotland to see his son... File of history is immense.

You really can't beat an OM605/606 for refinement, reliability and cost to run.

My old E300TD gets hammered day after day.
191,000 miles now.
Regular basic servicing and they will run forever.
Only real problem is the corrosion issues.
Winter has not been kind to my door bottoms ... etc.

I've only just seen this post.

I suspect the EGR valve is sticking open at idle, so choking the air supply.

Try pulling the vacuum tube off the actuator and see. The ECU will adopt limp home mode after a few minutes driving, but as a test it should work as a test.
