311 cdi fuel leak

Just spotted this forum on the internet and before I start dismantling my van tomorrow has anyone got any ideas for this problem as I know the sprinter 311 engine is also fitted to mb cars. Small 10 mm pipe running off the back of the engine at the top - looks like some kind of overspill pipe is leaking fuel when the engine is running also for a few minutes afterwards. The foam gasket that runs around the plastic cover on the top of the engine is also a bit wet with fuel. I suspect and hope its just an injector nut - pipe loose - any ideas?

Hello Nomad.
Your description suits that of the low pressure return to the tank otherwise known as leak off.
Not sure from your description what exactly you mean but you should see it in this diagram.
Scroll down to the injector rail diagram.

Thanks dieselman, im new to this engine 311cdi (312 5cyl 2.9td was a gem)
the fuel is leaking slowly when running and for about 2mins after, from what looks like some kind of like you say leak off pipe rubber 10mm from the back of the top cover about 3ft long open ended run basically pointing to the floor.

i will investigate tomorrow, thanks for your reply and info.

It shouldn't be open ended, it should return to the tank...see item 62

It's the line returning from the filter by the sound of it.
