Folks

A question since I don't really know the M104 320 engine:

There's a ticking from the top end. It rises and falls in frequency with the engine revs. Present both hot and cold. Follows the engine revs to about 2000rpm at which point it seems to disappear.

Any ideas? Do these have hydraulic lifters? Is this common?

It's on a car I looked at for my niece - a very well maintained W140 S320 1993. The head gasket (usual leak), water pump and wiring loom have been replaced at about 100k according to the service history and it's now on 108k.

cheers

Dave

Most likely due to weak hydraulic lifters, Mitsubishi are the only ones to do an oil treatment that I know works - for a while. This from the Forman of our largest MB Dealership.......!??

Otherwise, oil and filter change might make a difference, but they can be replaced to quieten them down.

Hi - thanks, that's what I figured.
