3rd Brake light & left/right licence plate lights out

I don't know whether it's a coincidence but following unhitching my caravan from the newly fitted towbar on my 2004 W211 E270 CDI I find the brake and licence plate light warnings on my dashboard. Also, the boot will not open with the fob only manually with the key.

The tow bar fitter tested all the boot fuses and tells me the towbar is fine and that it's a coincidence. Anybody got any ideas of where to look?

have same problem, checked fuse but thats ok,
any help appreciated

The wires feeding into the boot will have broken . They follow along the left hinge and can break at the hinge point , very common problem

just checked loom and yes the brown wire was cut, put it back together and voila back to normal, many thanks

R171 SLK third brakelight, both licence plate lights and boot wont open FIXED

Spot on! Fixed my SLK this afternoon on this spot on advice! Some place else some one nailed the problem as bing the large brown wire. After stripping back the nylon sheath thats just what I found. Thanks.
