5 years in...

I've had my eye on 2018/19 models for some time. Not seeing any reduction in prices for this model.
Also not prepared to accept options I don't want. The lighter interiors don't appear too often either and when they do they are on a car in an area I won't consider buying.
Still too big a gap in price between the 212 and 213 for my liking.

That's my issue too w212 prices seem to have dropped in trade. I am glad I sold mine earlier this year now.

I agree the gap is to big to justify and perhaps W213 are rarer.

I am also looking for a light interior perhaps TAN and want a few options in there too that I can't live without now.

Good luck finding one with a tan interior - I looked at 30 or 40 cars on Autotrader over 3 months and never once saw one with anything other than black/black or black/grey. You'll be waiting for a while I would suggest!

Late to the conversation, and this might be my prejudice as well, but unless you “need” the space and loadlugging capacity of the bigger, heavier vehicle, the smaller car seems the way to go.

And the way to find out which one is to drive them and feel the things in your hands.

My prejudice, maybe, but as all cars get newer, they’re getting both bigger and heavier, which comes at a cost to “dynamic ability,” however we define it.

But a C63 is a glorious thing as depreciation kicks in and performance EVs distract some of their potential buyers… (cough: M3, cough)

Tan interior? Love them, but you know that it’s a one in a hundred thing. Brits buy black interiors new. If you want light or interesting you’ll have to wait.

My only issues within these sorts of interiors is that they always look better in the photos and/or when they are new.

Something about brown interiors where the plastics and leather discolour/fade/go yellow at different rates, show wear/ingrained dirt and sometimes look a bit sticky/grubby as they get old.

And in some case, just seem a bit sickly.

My wife's A Class tan interior is 15 years old... still looks like new.

W213/S213 will be the last of the E class I shall buy. Won't be buying anything newer after that, its all hybrid and electric offerings. After that may jump back into an older car, maybe an E55 with m113k?🙂

OP I've got the 3 year itch on my e63 s saloon. I came from 3 years in an s205 c63s and I'll just put it out there that this car is the craziest car I've ever owned. Even after doing super car driving experiences, I was more pleased getting back in that car. Its wild rear end with narrow 265 tyres, sound, dynamic ability, are the sweet spot for me. As a daily I think the the w212 wins for comfort and stability and to get it to misbehave needs crazy speeds. Ofcourse the s has an lsd so it's harder to get it to misbehave

My strong recommendation, go to mb brooklands , do a 1 hour session in a c63 205 for around gbp 260, push the car , feel it on the handling track and you'll know whether it is the car you want or not. Note the estate is the crazy one. The coupe is faster but not as fun IMO

The w213 is much faster than the 205 , you can also get a mb brooklands session in one of those...

I can concur - I am still shocked just how much faster the 213 is over my old 205. Although I do miss the sound, the 213 is much more grown up and refined in every respect.

I would say that a pre-facelift W/S213 E 63 S is “peak” AMG 👌🏻

In a land of increasingly draconian speed monitoring and generally people driving so slowly you wonder if they're awake I don't think a faster car is the answer. There aren't many opportunities to use it and it's more enjoyable to drive a slower car harder than a faster car more gently.

For me, the car needs to have character and come alive at legal speeds. I expect you'd get more of that in a 205 C63 than a 213 E63.

There are still places you can use a fast car (aside from the obvious track days) and most of the heavy handed speed enforcement is either in built up areas ...which is fair enough IMO....or on motorways.....and you cant have much fun in car on one of those. Fast, open and flowing country A roads with good visibility that that you know well are the places to drive a car properly. I've has some quickish cars and don't hang about when Im in the mood.....no points for speeding since 1989.
And I suppose to be honest even the most humble hatchback can easily exceed 100 mph these days.....well into mandatory bans speeds.

I disagree - I’ve only had my 213 for 5 weeks, but in that time I’ve had a chance to hustle it on a few of my favourite roads and aside from the slightly muted noise, the car feels dynamically as good as the 205.

Sure it’s heavier and physically bigger but you rarely feel that size - or at least I’ve not felt it yet.

I agree with you on the size thing, I'm in a 5 Series now and it's about the same weight as my C63 was but handles better.

Thanks, I will definitely look into a Brooklands experience - like you I love my w212 & it's been 100% reliable & an epic car to own & drive for the past 5 years but I either need to get some cream or address the itch ASAP - if nothing else to stop Mrs Cooke tutting at me for spending hours looking for possible replacements..
