A class rear view camera constantly opening at slow speed

I have not read all of this thread but has anyone considered fitting an after market camera without the cover? I have an older model without the cover and it has no issues. I know you shouldn't have to but if its a matter of overcoming the noise I think I would try it or prise the cover off its track. Perhaps a bit desperate for those with leased vehicles though.

Funnily enough I did suggest to one of the techs at MB that maybe I could just have the camera disconnected but he said it was not as simple as that as it would just throw up a fault. Not sure I would want to do that anyway. As it happens I really don’t pay any attention to what is on the camera as I don’t trust it - I just look at the distance indication lights and the beeps.

Just checked my 2016 and it does have the cover but obviously behaves itself.
The constant camera calibration issue only affects the new 2023 version of the A class so your 2016 version won’t be affected - lucky you. Who said progress was a good thing?

Yes sometimes you have to wonder why they make things complicated when they don't need to be.

As annoying as it is I'm learning to blaming out as it's clear nothing is going to be done about it.

My main concern about it now is the durability of the motors. Will they be up to the constant use or will owners eventually face trips to dealers for replacements and eventually expensive bills when out of warranty

I'm starting to think there may only be a handful of people with the clicking camera flap issue. I would have thought the forums would be awash with people complaining about this. Either that, or I simply have a very low tolerance level to this ridiculous feature.

I mentioned it before, but with the nights drawing in I cannot get the camera to 'calibrate' in the dark. Urban driving at night is absolutely infuriating. I'm so annoyed because everything about this car is great, except this utterly nonsensical flapping issue which grates my ears every time I hear it.

I realise this isn't the right thread for this query but plenty annoyed owners on it to ask. Apart from the camera issue is anyone else having issues with nav map between the instrument cluster? I have mine set to classic mode with the navigation in the middle but all too often the top half of the map is blacked.out. seems to sort itself after a while but occasion goes back to being blacked out

Probably best to start another thread.....rather than hijack this one.

Not been trying to be cleaver... Google can be useful from time to time. Please read attached file. May help.
I have seen this before but it does not really apply to the situation with the new A class. This is for those cars where an occasional camera recalibration is required to clear it. This does not apply to the new A class as, according to MB, the camera is now designed to calibrate every time the car is started so this won’t work. I have tried this forced calibration sequence and it does work in that I can force the camera to recalibrate itself by driving slowly for 100m or so rather than wait for it to go through 4-5 opening and closing sequences and complete the calibration itself. However, this is a waste of time as the next time you start the car you are back to square one anyway.

Yep, and frustratingly the 'fix' doesn't work in the dark...as I'm discovering with great annoyance now we're experiencing shorter days.

Possibly some amazing news! After a particularly awful drive through town with 17 clicks (my son counted them!) during a 1.5 mile journey I messaged my chap at the local dealership and said I'm really losing my cool with car. My query was already with their tech team but he did some calling around as I think he appreciated and understood my grief! It appears there is a fix, a permanent calibration. Another owner had theirs done recently. I'm just waiting for confirmation of a date to get mine done next week and will report back with any findings. Fingers crossed my sanity and faith in Mercedes will return!

Wow! I shall eagerly await your report on what happens. Thanks for this.

I have the same problem. According to dealer all normal. Google it myself and after 3 calibrations, teach them how to do it. Calibration works, but after restarting, same problem. Dealer cannot help me. Mercedes says this is not an error. The car wants to calibrate the camera every time. I just have to file a complaint according to them. Car is new, Cla Shooting Brake 250e Facelift 2024. rRad here on forums, problems with it since 2016...!?!

That’s strange - just returned in the dark from Scotland and had to stop in heavy traffic soon after we set off so the camera opened and closed a couple of time but there was then a section where I was able to crawl along in a straight line for about 100m at less than 10mph and the camera was forced to complete the calibration and didn’t do it again on that trip. From this experience it seems that my camera can complete a calibration in the dark. Will be keeping my eye on this but I don’t travel in the dark much as a rule.

Any update on whether or not you got anywhere with this?

Hi , I have just joined this thread as we bought a new A180 Mercedes in September and this camera issue is driving us mad ! We complained within the first 2 weeks and they took the car in 3 times to fix the problem each time it failed to resolve . We have made a complaint and have been told that it is not a fault and that it is normal operating procedure. We do not accept this as why would it be ?! We are in the process of rejecting the car. My husband had a call today to say that they are investigating our complaint , however if they find it’s normal operating procedure & not a fault, we will have to go to the ombudsman. We will do this as we aren’t prepared to accept it .
Will keep you updated. It’s a complete design fault that they will not admit to. I cannot imagine that they will release the new model in 2024 with this same problem! If they can’t come up with a fix I think they could possibly recall. Who knows.
