1984 Mercedes Hearse (W123)
Evening all,I have a few questions about my 123 that hopefully you guys can help with.
The car is a 1984 200t auto carb petrol. At the moment I'm getting no heat from the heater :( which was a nightmare this morning with the frost.Engine fluids and temp are fine.
Any ideas on what to check or a possible solution?

How easy/hard/expensive would it be to convert a W123 from auto to manual or is there another auto box (Merc or otherwise) ideally 5speed that would make a suitable inexpensive upgrade?
Cheers in advance. Lee.

Take it that there are no problems with the coolant generally or the blower so first check would be that the control is working and opening the heater core to the flow from the engine. If that 's OK then perhaps it needs flushing. As for converting to manual from auto as a manual box was available for the 123 then that would be the first option and would be available from breakers such as Mercman.net but all sorts of problems would follow such as prop shaft, gear change and interior work and wouldn't swear to it but its likely that the diff ratios are different.

Sounds like the heating issue might well be a seized/failed heater tap as Marku said , I'd start there too :-)

No heat at all? Is the fan working - all 3 speeds? May be an air lock?
Auto to manual is not impossible but a bit of work. My suggestion be 100% happy with all other areas of your car before you do this as you will be sinking a bit of non returnable money into it.
Diff stays the same, the prop changes, you then need the pedals the clutch slave cylinder and clutch etc. Not sure what flywheel changes are needed. You need a 5 speed gearbox (message me I have one if you do go ahead) from a 200 or 230 NOT a diesel or 280 as starter motor is on the other side.

The heater matrix may be blocked due to a previous owner using Radweld or similar - flushing may help , or may expose a leak somewhere .

W123 donor cars are thin on the ground now - you may be able to use a gearbox from a 190E or W124 .
