A tale of sorrow :(

Yeah I had no intentions of selling the car tbh, it was a long project that I hoped once completed would be my pride and joy for a good few years to come

I did have an agreed value of 19k so I did come out with the car and around 10k, plus have some savings so the whole c63 option is still a viable one for me... but have been really tempted by a nice sl55 amg I have found on eBay, I'm now torn between 3 cars really... a c63, a widebodied m5 and the sl55 amg f1 performance pack pace car edition.... all lovely cars in their own respect....hmmm decisions decisions

That's not so bad on the payout front then. Still not sure I would have put £8k back into it but if you can break it / sell it for more than it will have been worthwhile!

For me, the SL55 is the preferred option. Ultimately tuneable engine (if that is your thing), fantastic looks and still mean by today's standards. Not the cheapest to run and make sure the roof doesn't leak... but still a fantastic car.

For me, the C63 is the younger man's choice. I had an M3 Evo in my mid 20s and I would have loved a C63 then.

Two decades on, a C63 doesn't appeal at all!

The E60 has a V10 so it probably sounds great with the right exhaust but I personally don't feel it's aged well, it's not so tuneable and that gearbox is Russian Roulette on your finances.

I decided on an E55K over an M5 of that vintage because I wanted the bulletproof slushy (which the SL has) and an engine I could tune in future (which I did).

Regarding your advert, I’d remove any mention of “show car”, that would instantly put me off.
It just gives the image of something that would have been in Max Power and made of body filler

Wow mate congrats on getting it up and running again.

The and doesn't look too bad, but as others have mentioned, the whole Car Show thing might put some people off

To be fair, if I was in your position I would have definitely purchased the car back as well. Good luck with the sale and I'm sure you'll do well out of it

Tbh I have lost the trust in the car now, I'm funny like that, I'll always be listening out for every single knock, bang, rattle etc and never be able to feel comfortable driving it again

On the other hand I'm glad it's now running as obv makes it alot more sellable, hopefully someone will buy it and once again she will see the roads

Myself, it gives me the chance to start a new project

I think what it is with me is that I have already poured so much money into it that I don't want to put more into it when with that money I could just buy a new car

If I end up spending another couple of grand on the car and then decide I'm still not happy I wouldn't then have enough left to go out and buy the cars I'm looking at buying now

Where as if someone does buy the car from me and it meets it's 5k reserve on eBay and they then throw another couple of grand into it, they will have a bargain of a car

57 reg mercedes clk 63 amg, 136,000 miles fsh, 478 bhp version,not c63 | eBay

Ok maybe a change of plans, just found a nice clk63 for sale, my idea is maybe put all the suspension, bodykit, headlights and wheels onto that car and then get it all sprayed.... I'd actually have a proper 6.3 black series (or as close as the real thing)

My question is, is the clk63 the same shape exactly as mine, I.e will all my bits be a simple bolt on swap

Yeah. It’ll be facelift though so it will have a nicer interior, different front grill (1 fin less) and different rear lights.

I'd use my front grill as already sprayed gloss black and also my tails lights as they are already tinted, thats presuming they are all the same fitment

Yeah you can make the grill fit just make sure you swap across the ‘T’ shaped plastic bridge from the clk55 to the 63.

You should get £75ish for the grill from the 63, you can also get £100+ for the rear lights from it.

Yep wiring wise the lights from your 55 will fit, you may need to bend the metal frame part around it slightly to make the fitment snug. You will definitely be able to do it though, is self explanatory when you remove it and compare both cars.

Good luck!

Could be a good way of still getting the desired look I was after but at the same time get an upgraded car, at least all my bodykit has had all the fettling done, parking sensors fitted and all the fiddly bits like smoothing of the panels already done

Incorrect, the facelift/prefacelift lighting boards for both sides are different, approx £40 each from dealer.

If by lighting boards you mean the bulb holders which fit into the plastic cluster.. he will have these from his old car...?

P/N - A20982000877, A2098200777 - £28 each inc delivery.

OP will have already have them though

Have you got any pics of your custom headlights switched on? Looks interesting. Which company made then?
