E CLASS CONVERTABLE + B CLASS,
Should the steering wheel have adjustment to get it closer and nearer (away from instrument cluster or further away) on the A180 (w169) the leaver under steering will move but if I pull/ push on steering wheel its absolutely solid.

I don't know about the A-class, but on my car it's moved electrically; so with the ignition on if I pull the stick towards me, that's the way the wheel comes.

With the ignition off it does nothing.

Hi,
According to page 79 of the manual :-
Pull the release handle out completely.
Adjust steering wheel to desired position ( the height and fore aft position can be adjusted ) ( in out up down )
Push handle in completely until you hear it engage.
The steering wheel is now locked in position.

Are you unlocking it fully, or is it at the extreme of its adjustment ?
O/h is out at the moment, or I would go and try the adjustment on her car (W169)

Yep goes up/down OK but not in or out, looking at how far it is away from dash i would say its fully out but rock solid if i push on it, even tried pulling lock handle while pushing hard down. Think might pull covers off today and see what's what.

Having the same problem. Did you find out?

On cars with manual (non-electric) steering wheel adjustment, you release the locking lever then move the steering wheel up or down. If the car is also equipped with manual reach adjustment, then you can also pull the steering wheel out towards yourself or push it further away from you. If the steering wheel won't move in or out when the locking lever is released, then your car's isn't equipment with this feature. There's isn't a separate locking lever for the reach adjustment.

Thank you very much markjay. Solved that dilemma. Now onto the next one...
