Advice & Opinions - Soon to sell my 1999 R129 SL500

Had a bit of lunch first and took my time. Job done. Found the old chipped piece of glass rattling around inside too.

Took it easy and took my time with no broken clips so all good. Just going to put all the trims back and that one done.

Next job, full wash, clay and polish. Then to use my new steam cleaning machine to clean all carpets and interior. Will give the under bonnet a little spruce up although it is pretty tidy to start with.

I do love a clean engine bay!
Me too. That pic was before I've started [emoji6]

As I have found since I moved and have more indoor space keeping a car in a nice dehumidified dry space makes such a difference to its condition.

I guess not driving it so much helps as well though!

Right....alloys off for proper clean and a nice spruce up of the arches me thinks.

Ignore the body.....been cleaned and clayed bit will be cut/polished later.

Well alloys were nice on the faces with no kerbing or scratches at all. However shot on the insides. Going to leave them off and get them professionally refurbed this week.

Just noticed the rear tyres although both Conti's are a slightly different model. Might get them both replaced at the same time with new ones.

Starting to look after this car way too much as I'm selling it. You know how it is though....I find it hard to do a bad job or ignore stuff!

I bet you end up keeping the SL!

I do like those Maserati's, for a while i was thinking of buying a Gransport but my head won over my heart.

Definitely commited to selling the SL 100%. Really needs to go to a nice owner to keep it looked after and used more.

The Maserati is one of my better purchases for sure. Will never be sold. You would never regret buying a Maser.

Went to Brooklands to Auto Italia on Sat and every drive is an event. Looked paltry in comparison to so much exotica there. Never seen so many Lambo's and Ferrari's.

The XC90 will be next to go after the SL and then the TVR. Maybe the Alfa GT as well. Have a plan for one or two to come in after those are gone [emoji6]

I can see why you like doing it and must find it therapeutic Gav doing things like this. I've never done so much of this but can see the attraction.

Trouble is how far do you go and where do you stop?!

I'm stopping there....not chuffing polishing it as that is getting ridiculous [emoji3]

Funny enough I was passing by on Saturday morning, never seen so many Lamborghinis in a line (they’d obviously come in convoy, must have been a good 20/30 in each set that arrived)

That and dozens of photographers with big camera lenses clinging onto roundabouts and at various entrances and exit points.

And was back in Weybridge in the afternoon, every couple of minutes you’d hear the sound of something exotic coming through.

I know they’re ‘exotica’ but I bet the local traffic police would have had a field day if they’d been there, 90%+ running no front number plates :D

SL is looking great btw, envious of your new garage setup too :thumb:

Real cross section of owners of these exotic cars though. Some slightly shallow look at me types. Plenty of nice petrol heads just appreciative of a nice car. Met a nice guy who bought a 2007 430 with 11k miles as a 50th present for himself. It was as new like my 4200 with 3k miles less but 4x the price! Fairly similar cars but very different price tags!!

The SL is getting there. Amazing how many jobs and bits there is to do to get it pretty decent. I was starting with a decent example as well. Would be a ton of work doing it to a basket case.

It won't be concourse but will not be concourse money. Will be a very nice straight SL for someone though. Some of the R129's are so bad now. I had seen quite a few before I bought this one.

Thanks. It is getting there. Has come on a long way but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Main thing it is functional so I can use it fully now.

Drool...... lol

Looking Great Sir

I have a bit of Meguiars stuff I bought last year with a Perfectly Cleaned DAS 6 Pro 12 kit.

It came with the Correction Compound and disc and then the Finishing Wax and disc. I have used the correction compound and seemed decent enough. Will likely just use the finishing Wax it came with.

I'm new to all this detailing mullarky so still learning. Went to a days training one of the Maser guys kindly put on last year. Still got a lot to learn though.

Got so much tooling and gear now but still need a few more bits. Need to get a paint depth device. Also going to take the plunge and get an Autel diagnostic tablet this year.

I'm at a Car Limits driver training day at North Weald airfield tomorrow in the TVR so that should be fun and hopefully will learn a bit.

Stunning Result! One day i may get to own a r129, just hope the Ev and Hybrid devlopment doesn't stop me before hand.

I want this so much! :(
