I today went to book the e320 in to the bodyshop after the damage I told you about here. I telephoned them this morning and was told that my courtesy car was going to be "Ford KA" and that I had to arrange insurance cover for it. Now elephant is telling me they do not cover the insurance on the Ford KA but would be happy to quote for it

Is this right. One would think when putting in a car as big as the w210 I would at least get a four door salon. I don't like the idea of turning up for meeting or going out for the day inn a ford KA.

Regards
Zooman

BTW i am fully comp

With elephant you should be able to insure it as a temporary additional vehicle. Not shure how you stand thought.

As for the courtesy car the garage can give you what thery have available I guess.

Thats c**p

I am with elephant and everytime I have had a courtesy car all I have needed to do it phone them and tell them what car I will be driving and for how long. I think there was an admin charge to pay but that was all....

My guess is that the bodyshop are authorised repairers for a number of marques and so have a fleet approach to courtesy car (small and modest).

Whereas the dealer that refers the car to the bodyshop are likely to have anything but Ford KA's.

Certainly this appears to be the postion in Oxford.

Dealer supplied courtesy cars in Oxford are A class as a minimum (i.e. always a Merc), have also had CLK cab; a new ML; and S500, E220.

Any merit in asking for the dealer for a courtesy car, rather than the bodyshop?

Ta Guys.

My local Merc stealer does not do bodywork and put me on to approved bodyshop.

Does anyone know of a stealer in Cumbria or Lancashire that does bodywork (on bright side I can get b service done at same time b4 we sell it). I really do not want a ford ka.

Zooman

Anyone know the number for merc uk customer support (i'm not at home where all my merc paper work is).

Hi Zooman,
Looking at the price of the repair I can see why you are only offered a Ka. Is that the correct figure or am I reading it wrong? (£150)

Our old dealership did not have any bodywork repair facilities, but the work was still booked in via the dealer and they dealt with everything including the courtesy car. Again as others have mentioned, always a Mercedes-Benz and never a query over insurance. (The vehicle was covered by the dealership)

Hi John

The works is around 3k and my excess is £150. Where's my wife when i need her.

Ahhh!! :D In that case I don't blame you for checking out other dealerships. It is unacceptable to have such differing standards of customercare.

The dealership service department should book the car in at a time convienant to you (at their authorised repair shop). They should take the car to the bodyshop, collect and inspect it, then you should thoroughly inspect it before accepting it back.

The dealer should supply the courtesy car, ours will sometimes hire in a Mercedes-Benz from their contracted hire company.

If one dealership can offer this standard of service then they all can. Offering a Ford does not do them any credit and might cost them sales?

To put this in perspective the last time my vehicle was taken to the dealer for servicing the driver stated the previous day he had taken an E-class up to Manchester following accident repair damage. The owner of the car had been given an E-class courtesy car. The driver handed over the repaired car and then drove the courtesy car back to Exeter. I would like to think that if we were unfortunate enough to have an accident in Cumbria I would get exactly the same type of service :( :( :o but reading your post I am not so sure it would happen?

Good luck,
John

When I was with Norwich Union they were good - everytime my car was in a garage/stealer for repair any courtesy car that I was given I would always automtacally be insured for fully compy for a maxium of 7 days at a timr (I think it was...).

Churchhill (current insurers) were usless and charged regradless to whatever coutesy car I am given...

Cheers Guys got things sorted. But immaterial now. Took it in yesterday afternoon around 3pm got a call this morning telling me it was so badly rusted under the paint work they are unwilling to do the job.

So so sad I can not put it words. 50k car rusted to ruin in less than 10 years. Well one now knows Mercs are off the shopping list.

I have had to pay extra for every courtesy car I have had with Elephant....ranged from about £16 for 3 days for an old 190 to £120 a week for a new C180K.

I had an accident where I was hit in a car park whilst parked. I went to a company called Bristol and London who arranged for a brand new Merc E320 CDI for a week. It was delivered to my door, and they reclaimed all of my out of pocket expenses. Didnt cost a penny and they were brill to deal with. They submit the bill direct to the insurer. Can't reccomend them enough.

Going up now to have a look now. Taking camera. I will post the pics for other w210 owners to see.

The rust is underneath the paint not visible? Or rusted where its scratched?

Hope Mercedes have this sorted on their newer cars. W210 firmly off the shopping list.

Hi Zooman,
Unbelieveable.... I simply do not believe it!!!!!!!

Of course I believe you, I just cannot believe a ten year old Mercedes-Benz can be condemned after just ten years!!!!!

Are you aware of the full history of your fifty thousand mile car? Has it ever suffered fire damage? I ask this solely because fire damaged cars are terribly prone to corrossion.

I hope you are in a fit state to not take this laying down? Are you taking this issue further and demanding to know why such a prestigious car has literally rotted away?

I feel for you and wish you well with any future car.

Regards,
John

The last time Mrs A was shunted by a dozy dolt the C220 was booked into MB Northampton. They arranged all the work (including a new bonnet and wing etc) and arranged a car which was paid for by the other guy's Insurers, Tesco. Tesco were very good, when the car hire firm offered a Focus, (no squire best we can do) Tesco intervened and a Vauxhall Omega arrived. Whoops maybe I should have kept quiet !!

Know the car it has been mine from day one and full mbsh untill last year.

Anyone know where i stand with mb on this 96' car
