Air Passenger Duty increases retrospective

It just keeps getting better. Is there nothing Gordon Brown cannot screw up?

"The Chancellor's decision to make the extra tax retrospective is causing great concern. It will mean affect tens of thousands of passengers, create a logistical nightmare and bring more chaos to the airports.

"Thousands of families have booked their ski-ing trips and their Easter breaks. They book their summer holidays a year ahead to get the best deals.

"Now the Chancellor expects airlines and travel companies to go back to those customers - who have paid an agreed and transparent price for their trip - and then hand over even more money. Apart form the inherent unfairness, it will create a logistical nightmare."

He said: "Just how is this tax going to be collected? The Chancellor has not thought this through. Check-in staff cannot accept cash. So we will have to resort to doing transactions on credit cards. It will cause hold-ups. There is a lot of anger. Passengers will be rightly furious. It will be a nightmare.""

I too will be furious as I have paid for a trip next October just before the increase. We will see..........................

Just how far retrospective will this be???

Increases start from 1 February 2007 but is charged by reference to when you fly, not when the booking was made. So in many cases it will amount be retrospective taxation.

Now long term planning is key to financial success, oops, we need cash, lets give it a veiled attempt by labels of "environment" and the masses wont mind. Whitehall bullpoo yet again, and whom are penalised yet again, those whom work hard, pay their dues and yet again are turned upside down and coinage shaken from pockets. The country has gone to complete .......
