AMG owernship experience

Well it has to us and I was wondering if it has to the OP. Who is talking rubbish...?

You are.

The OP has a 2015 S63 AMG Coupe. When did you purchase yours, to have had such bad luck with it?

Not on the sauce, just getting a reality shot; far more powerful.

What makes you say that? Your sense of victim blaming, don't work for the Police do you? These are first hand experiences - with a real car @38 000 kms. Lovely. :):)

If we weren't laughing we'd be crying!

  • £500 - £1k a month on petrol for any decent number of miles.
For £1k I can do around 3,500 miles in Mrs D's ML63 with the same engine. You must be doing some serious mileage!

The car was purchased late last year.

Hooo gettin hot in here

I'm cool; I think, but the blood does boil at MB. I'm not alone, hords in the US are taking class action lawsuits so I know I'm not going nuts - yet. :):)

I guess there is slight frustration at the knee jerkers who don't know how to ask the correct questions, but they are genuinely forgiven.

To the OP my answer is yes I would. I have had a C63 estate, A45 and my current SL63 for 2yrs now. Thankfully I don't recognise some of the comments made here. Only the A45 was bought new. None of them had any problems other than regular servicing. The A45 had a recall on turbo which was replaced u de Rossi warranty. The C63 ate rear tyres but that's physics. I've enjoyed all three cars. No plans to replace the SL any time soon. I switched over to AMG from BMW. Google them and cracked alloys if you think Mercedes are unique.

You'd think, car has done 23k miles in total, 3rd birthday next month. I've attached something to give you an idea of fuel economy, or lack thereof. According to members of the opposite sex, I drive like a fu**ing idiot, and every traffic light is a drag race. Can't help that, I've tried, but it's really meaningless to the car. Math wise, average 8k miles a year, that's 650 miles a month, 20 something miles a day. That's basically nothing, not to mention I go through the week without getting in any of the cars, Tesla being the exception.

You can truly try very hard to get MPG, be super gentle with the throttle, let the car roll etc, all the party tricks, 10% improvement at best. Good but not worth it, not why you buy AMG.

Still, it's a little bit off putting. To someone else who asked, a full 80L fuel tank every 2 - 3 days is basically the norm yes, you'd eat through 10 - 15% of it just doing a couple rush hour miles and evening Tesco shopping. I laugh that Uber X or driving cost me the same for all destinations. £1k per month at 1.399 1L VPower is 714 litres of petrol, or a mere 9 full tanks. You can see how at 9 - 12 miles a gallon, 9 tanks in a month isn't really trying very hard at all, it's casual driving!

Good to hear some of their cars hang together.

Any Japanese wheels cracking, or is this a German thing...?

To answer the OP's points in order:

Depreciation: Terrible for the first owner. My car listed at about 80k with options. I bought at 24 months / 18k miles for 36k. Ouch. I feel like I got a lot of car for the money, so happy with inverse exponential depreciation! We'll see what happens when I try to move it on in about 12 months...

Reliability: Not good. So far (at 33k) sun roof has has to be reassembled to fix cracking noise, suspension noises turned out to be a faulty steering rack. Headlights mist up, various creaks and rattles, gearbox flares when cold, timing chain tensioners needed a check value to be retrofitted to the cylinder heads, arb drop links, front suspension arms replaced due to wear and perished bushes, and secondary battery failed and needed to be replaced at two years.. Still to be fixed - intermittent valve lifter noises, various trim rattles, ARB drop links (again).

All sorted out under warranty or extended warranty, but still a pretty shocking list for a young car. I'd feel absolutely sick if I didn't have warranty cover for these items.

Brand identity: don't really care too much about this, but I think there are some benefits in terms of brand marketing and so on, but the AMG brand has been dented by applying it to almost every model in the range, no matter how inappropriate. See R63 AMG thread as a perfect example

Service: Maybe I've been lucky, but I've had a positive experience with MB Epsom. Service process has been quick and efficient, communications from the service manager during repairs and service work has been top notch, and faults have been diagnosed and repaired efficently. No real complaints other than I think it's a bit rich to give me a crappy A class as a loaner.

Running costs: Predictably, pretty high. My car insurance is only £540, which I think is good, but I've needed eight tyres, two services, new brake disks and pads, extended warranty at £1100 pa (absolutely needed: see reliability!). Fuel consumption typically 18-22mpg, which is predicatably awful but forgiveable.

Would I buy another? I never would new - the depreciation is way too high. I think personally that the cars are getting too complicated to be reliable long term and the cost of the sub assemblies is wallet-melting. It is disappointing that I have experienced so many reliability issues and faults. It is fairly amazing to have a 550bhp saloon that one can use daily, and I have only ever had one problem (battery failure) that actually stopped me. The other issues are typically niggles and some are disappointing in a premium brand. On the other hand, I still enjoy what it does and it does satisfy overall. I agree with your point regarding the overall cost of ownership to an extent. Ultimately depreciation is linked to volume of supply, and AMG are clearly a volume-chasing operation and residuals sudder accordingly.

Regards,
Alex

Are you a Policeman..?

Mercedes Cracked Wheels.

Anybody who knows me knows I don't tell lies, and I always try to be on time.

What type of custard would you like?

Might be time for an apology - if you have it in you..?

£1k per month is usually a single round trip over 400 - 500mph, thinking Cornwall or Edinburgh.

At c£1.30 per lite, £1000 = 770 litres = 170 gallons. Over 500 miles that equates to 3mpg.....

might want to check those figures you are plucking from the air

80 litres every 3 days = 800 litres per month = 175 gallons. Over 650 miles per month that = just under 4mpg.

well, your figures are getting better ....
