AMG Widebody 190

Personally I don't think it needs a widebody kit, but then I also would put an M113 in it!

Kudos to the chap for his conversion though.

One thing I will say about 199 BlauSchwarz (I like it, btw); You have to keep it absolutely f***ing spotless, or else it just looks like a scruffy dark grey.
It has less depth than you think, especially once the paint begins to mar

In my experience two colours are significantly worse for looking shabby as soon as there are any marks on the car: Blue-Black and Smoke Silver

The V8 is more important than the Widebody! If you weren't putting it in I wouldn't still be reading ;).

Says who ?

There are at least a dozen 190's with V8's.

There are less than half-a-dozen AMG Widebody 190's. Finding one of these kits is like finding hen's teeth....V8's plenty galore, many have already fitted an m117 and m119 into the w201 chassis. Hence the reason i ain't fitting an m117 .....

For me the engine and body go hand-in-hand....all hat and no cattle is not the way to go.

A Widebody has to have a special engine and an M116 with some serious headwork is an easier fitment with more power than an m119.

You in a roundabout way :D . You can't have a widebody without a V8, but you can have a V8 without a widebody - so which is a necessity? ;)

Widebody comes first....simply because it's ultra rare.

V8 has been done, many have the T-shirt....so not much glory in that.

The work for both goes hand-in-hand...such as the whilst the body goes through the colour change process, the front cross-member will be cut and replaced, as you can't stick in a V8 over the existing 2.6 cross member. This is just one of the many items to be addressed in the engine change....with such conversions, the devil is in the detail.

update..

Well, about a year after i sent the car into the bodyshop, they finally painted it last week...it's sat there doing nothing for all that time, apart from being prep'd in February !!! Not much i could do with the car in their hands of course.

We chose to go with Signal Red...the w126 AMG Pentas on the car already had signal red centres (they came off the AMG 500sl i had). Plus Jay was keen to see me go with red on the basis it will really highlight the Widebody lines.

Every speck of rust eliminated and the car is literally like new !

Photos below, excellent paint work from the bodyshop as always. They haven't bolted down panels yet. The 'wideness' is evident when one considers how the wheels line up with the panels....and these wheels are 8J wide with offset of 11m....they are designed for a w126, and AMG spec'd these for the AMG Widebody 190 !

The bodyshop will bolt down the panels this week, then paint the engine bay (2.6 M103 engine removed) and then send the car back to me. I can then start neccesary welding/modification work in the engine bay to acomodate the V8 M116 engine, transmission, differential. Once that piece of work comes together, and the wiring inside, i can then do the easy bit of fitting up the car with all the seals, windows, windscreens trim etc. Plus the springs/suspension, exhaust. Then back to the bodyshop for a final polish.

Hopefully, with the car back in my hands, i can make progress at a faster rate. We should see a Singal Red Widebody AMG 190 V8 soonish !

Obvious question, wouldn't it have been better to do the engine fabrication/fit before paint?

Ideally yes, but it's easier for the bodyshop to manouvre the car around with a working car, plus they're removing the engine for me and dumping it there :thumb:

When they're doing the job for me for next to nothing, i'm happy to make their life easier, especially when doing the engine before or after makes no difference to the end result.

Your cars amaze me Talbir, the shear attention to detail you put into everyone and the " money no object" when it comes to getting them all perfect..

Out of all of your cars I'd love to see the 928 in the flesh as that was my childhood dream car...

My hats off to you for being a true through and through "Petrolhead"
