my car is standard, so from what HB is saying, he must mean that the standard r230 mercedes is a mess? while he's defending the mercedes marque! that's how i read it?

That's a good point. I love my Lexus, its comfortable, looks good and drives smooth - I also like SOME Merc models, namely the AMG GT and the S-Class coupe. But having said that - I dont like how the Merc S-Class coupe costs a lot more than the C-Class coupe and they've put the same sort of looks on it. Its like owning a C63 and a guy makes his C220 into an AMG by sticking a badge on!
This is a MB forum, general bias is towards MB on here so any other car is going to get ****** on regardless but damn, you have to give other manufacturers credit for achievements eg Lexus changing their boring image around by sticking some cuts and big ass grills on their cars

He'd get a better response if he didn't make out Lexus was the holy grail; every car manufacturer has their faults, Mercedes very much included.
I've owned many different cars, I bought the Lexus due to their so-called legendary reliability which turned out to be hollow and then Lexus fanboys love to blame the Diesel engine (made by their owner Toyota) when that was only half the issue.
Lexus tried entering the premium diesel sector but just couldn't cut it with the Germans; they should attempt to copy Jaguar Land Rover next time, show them how it's done.

When did I call it the holy grail? I was just referring to what Lexus does well. The IS220d was a shocking motor - absolutely sucked but then, some owners havent had as many problems as others.
The engine was the main reason for concern - it had a lot of issues and the IS of that generation, like any other car has some issues like sticking brakes but on the whole, they're extremely reliable.
Like I said, had 2 Lexus RX's without single issue and now my wife has a 300h (its only 2 years old so not exactly representative) and its been fine so far.
Lexus suffers from UI issues with freezes but mechanically, their petrol engines are trouble free apart from carbon build up
The reason that the IS220d doesn't exist anymore is because it was reducing their reliability record, it had a fair few complaints that it wasn't a "Lexus" because NVH was so high in those things and it was generally rubbish. The IS250 was a much better option and the new IS200t looks like itll be a cracking motor especially with the extra power and the night and day better handling of the newer model
