Any one have blind spot assist?

Hi, my C Coupe came with a bonus feature of blind spot assist, about 2/3rds of the time it just decides its not going to work and even on motorways I just get the yellow warning triangles.

Whilst I think it may be useful as a bit of a safety net I don't view it as an essential feature and certainly not something that should be relied upon, but I assume it's supposed to work "most of the time". If you have it, what's your experience been?

I just get the yellow warning triangles, indicating its not working.

The yellow warning triangle alerts you to the fact the car has detected a vehicle in the monitoring zone. If you then switch on the corresponding turn indicator you will get an optical and audible warning.

All this only works at speeds above 30kph.

"If Blind Spot Assist is switched on, indicator lamp in the exterior mirrors lights up yellow up to a speed of 30 km/h. At speeds above 30 km/h, the indicator lamp goes out and Blind Spot Assist is operational."

Hi, i know how it's supposed to work thanks.. but the issue is that the more often than not the yellow indicator lamp stays permanantly on, even at motorway speeds (i.e. above 30 km/h too..) and when there is nothing there. From time to time it will work correctly, but more often than not it doesn't. Just wondering what others experiences were. I assume yours works flawlessly then?

Yup, I just turn my head to the right/left as required and there you have it!!

For the record, my original question was:

I have blind spot assist and it has been extremely useful. It`s no substitute for using your head, eyes and mirrors, but it's spotted a couple of fast moving motorcycles before me in the 55k covered.

In terms of it showing permanent yellow, this can happen when the system is automatically disabled. Does the system deactivate in the sane location or is it more random. If it is the latter then this doesn't sound correct and you should get it checked out.

When the system disables this is accompanied by a message (my car has distronic) stating this is the case. I'm not altogether sure what causes the system to disable but there are a couple of sections of road where it always switches off (eg. north of Shrewsbury towards Chester).

Funnily enough my distronic and blind spot assist switched off on the M6 today.... Does anyone know why this happens?

I was in two minds as to whether or not to get Blind Spot Assist when speccing my C-Class saloon last year. In the end I decided to continue to rely on mirrors and head turning. But after getting the car I found that the blind spot is more pronounced than any other car I've driven so sort of regretted my decision. The longer I spend looking over my shoulder the less time I spend looking forward - not a good thing! But reading here of its limitations makes me feel less despondant about not having it. I think I may feel the same about distronic. Perhaps I'm too much of a Luddite to rely so much on electronics where my safety is concerned. I'll continue to try not to let lapses in concentration be overcome by technology.

The earlier description of how Blind Spot Assist works also made me uncertain of its true value. I would have thought it would be of most use to those who don't use their mirrors sufficiently and don't indicate before changing lanes. As far as I can tell, the system would do nothing to warn them.

If you were up by J18 bobmushroom it is because of Jodrell Bank - I think there is a note about it in the handbook. It would be nice if standard cruise control kicked in. Hey ho - back to using the right foot!!

I have plenty of blind spots but no assist.

Mine are called floaters and they are in my eyes and on a bright sunny day I can see ---- all.

They probably wouldn't even notice it; or even if they did, wonder what it was.

The best option for them would be an RPG launcher fitted to the overtaking car...

It was around there yes!! I will look in the handbook. Don't really understand how a location can impact the radar.... Secret government conspiracy perhaps....

It's well known that having a Jodrell will give you blind spots.
