Anyone friends with somebody really famous?

People I've met (in no order other than that which my failing memory allows!) - Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Henry Cooper, Steve Davis, Kate Winslet, Cheryl Baker, Billy Connolly (many times), Gerry Rafferty, all of the original Genesis, all of Thin Lizzy, Sue Pollard, Princess Anne, Alec Douglas-Home, Lionel Blair, Dave & Ray Davies - there will be more buried deep in there somewhere :o:confused:

Used to live nr Malmesbury & William & Harry were regulars in out local....

I was up in London a couple of years back on a quiet Sunday morning. I came across a film set where they were doing some outdoor shots but - just my luck - everyone had piked off for a coffee (or something) except for a couple of blokes left in place to keep an eye on things.

I stood next to one of them and lamented on how it is always Sod's Law that, when you encounter something like this, there's nobody famous around to be able to tell your mates about and he agreed; we chatted a while longer and, as it was clear that all the stars were nowhere to be found I wondered on.

As we walked away, my wife asked me if Nigel Havers had said anything interesting.

I must have given his ego a real boost that day.

Fixed an oil leak on kimi raikonen's engine when I was working with a local racing firm,he was looking for a formula ford drive. The boss said tokeep an eye on him as he would go far. He didnt join us though.

1992 election met john redwood & cecil Parkinson, His wife was absoutely delightful.( I was helping a candidate in stoke-on-trent)

One big one I'd forgotten earlier, I dated Keith Moons sister Linda when I was a very young man (the Moons were near neighbours of my parents). Met the great man a couple of times... :)

This is starting to sound like the internet equivalent of Chris Evans' "Top Tenuous" :p :D

...

Personally I have only ever seen ... Depeche Mode (on stage + met), ...

Jealous! :)

I was walking through Guildfrod one time and saw Gordon Murray stood next to his SLR. Chatted to him for 15 mins and he let me sit in the car and popped the bonnet and started it up. That's about as close to fame as I've got I think. Merc-related though :)

When I say he is naive, I mean he has no idea when it comes to paying things like his telephone bill etc..

It is a footballer thing I think. I was refurbishing a house next door to Thierry Henri a few years ago, and he came out of his drive straight into the side of a car belonging to one of our subcontractors. Only a minor ding, but it turned out he had no insurance as all such things are dealt with by his agent - TH was fine but the agent was not pleasant

I used Jack Brabham's toilet in his boardroom at his Hyundai dealership in Surrey.

I think the most famous person I ever ever met was Princess Diana.

Sitting at Royal Ascot one year with my mate Paul and who comes and sits right next to me (with bodyguard in tow). Yep it was her. I said hi to which she replied 'Hello'. Next came the mistake. Carefully whispered to my mate Paul 'Look who is sitting next to me'. To which he leant right round, gawped at her and said 'f**K me'. At which point she got up and left. :o I had words with Paul along the lines of 'well done you reproducing sharp needle like object'

My 8 Month old son has an autographed photo that my brother got for him when we met Lewis Hamilton at the Powered by Mercedes event last year.

I was at a spa with Peter Crouch at my gym recently, the Tottenham team train at my gym in Chigwell.

While I was still at school in the early 1970s I was given the job of booking a comedian for a parent/teacher evening. I had heard about a young teacher at another school who fancied himself as a comic. So I asked a girl I knew, who was at his school, to get him to call me.

After a discussion to ensure that he would be suitable, we agreed a fee of £15, which was well within the budget (I had tried to book Ken Dodd but he wanted £150). On the night, everything went very well, and afterwards he thanked me profusely because I had given him his first ever paid booking!

The comedian's name was Tom O'Connor. No-one had heard of him then.

And I've never heard from him since. ;-)

One of my Aunt's is cousins with Joe Cocker and another Aunt used to look after Sir Paul McCartney's horses.

Never met either of them though!:(
