Forgot to ask, how the hell did you manage to get all that info? Didn't know that was possible
OK, I've responded to a few personal messages about this, but for anyone who's curious, there's a series of number plate directories, originally compliled by veteran number plate enthusiast Noël Woodall, that have been published every few years since the mid-1960s. The latest edition is available here.
The directories consist of a mix of random sightings by the compiler (a bit like this thread, actually), DVLA auction results and details voluntarily submitted by owners. It can be quite interesting (no, really!) seeing how details for a given plate have changed from one edition to the next.
Of course, it's never going to be 100% up to date. Plates may well have changed hands since it was last updated, so I'm normally quite circumspect about stating that a given plate is definitely owned by the person listed; all we can say for sure is that they owned it at the time the details were submitted for publication, which in some cases may been several years ago. For instance, I submitted details for one of my plates back in the 1990s, and it's still listed in the 2008 edition. As it happens, I still have the plate, but I've never been contacted by the publishers to confirm this when they're compiling new editions, so it seems they just carry over existing data and add any new details received.
