hi guys i know its best to use star readers etc for merc vechicals .but has anyone tryed one of these on a merc e320 cdi .reason i ask i borrowed one and guy said it would read the ecu .evern thow it has the vechical listerd and the correct 38pin lead it will read in depth of the gearbox but wont eead the ecu ( says conection error) anyone up on these .as im temptored to buy a 16 to 38 lead to try it again .any help please help .as this intertment limp mode is getting the better of me.

Either the control unit is duff or the software is. Has the control unit got its feeds and earths?

Most generic code readers are useless for gearbox faults.

Are you near me?

I will plug it in for free for you. I want to hear about your Caddy 4wd.....I take it you are the same person?

cheers pal ive managed to get it to work i had to use the 38 pin for the gearbox and use the 16pin with a convertor lead to 38pin .odd i know but now reads data etc ( ive some how got to work out what limits are right and wrong tbh ....

ive got a fault code but dont understand what it means ( dtc num 001 )? anyone know

ive found a dtc code which i think relates to my possible fault
Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit/Open p0 001? any ideas what are were this is

hi pal many thanks for reply
firstly i cleared the fault code .and went for a drive from cold .( rail pressure says 270 idiol) vechical drives pulls fine no faults with limp mode.then went on motorway cruiseing at higher rpm .again no problems and pulls kicks down without a problem .issuise is soon as i come off the revs and try to accelerte the engine wont pall above 2000rpm .if i pull over and switch off and tesyat it will drive fine again unit i let the off (rail pressure 300 bar when engines up temp) i dont get any mil or engine lights on the dash and seems to do the fault more when its up to tempure then when ots cold .this is the only fault code i see 001.ps nice to see you have a mk1 caddy too ....

Lack of fuel pressure generally cuts the engine dead as the ecu thinks there is a serious leak.

Is the cat blocked? EGR blocked? Have you checked the air mass voltage while driving? Pins one and five.

Small boost leak?

Also check the vac transducer. This supplies the vac to the turbo actuator. The vac pipes also chafe through.

Are the vanes sticking on the turbo?

The throttle pedal potentiometer can cause this type of fault too. Normally gives a reliable code though

That will keep you busy for a bit.

1.8t caddy soon.

Just re read that code.

Remove the rearmost rail pressure sensor and see if there is any gunge on it or is the seal ok?

ive replaced egr unit and both rail sensors.turbo vains arnt sticking also engine boosts fine .its had a new pointionmeter fitted.ive also boost leak tested the engine and nothing is leaking tbh .like i say it clears fault if i turn engine off then restart .i have a pic here which states a fault but im unsure what it means tbh .ps ill check those vacume pipes and both egr and boost sensors ( didnt think of those tbh)

regards the rail sensors .only diesel in them no horried bk bits etc so just blew them out with airline
hes a picture of idiol figures any idea what the fault means
